Well it looks like north baton rouge will get the ER that they've been wanting. With budget cuts and the state having to borrow money I wonder how long this will last?

I'd say access to emergency care can find a place in any budget. Get rid of something unnecessary.
Like the Department of Administration.

Honestly, I bet some MD residents will get unreal trauma experience there.
Trauma units are always great in crime ridden areas of the country. Chicago, Memphis, New Orleans.

Won't be enough for Gary. Mark my words.

If they are looking for trauma experience they should go to UMC-NO

I'm interested to see how this plays out as far as how admitting will be handled, what specialty backup they will have as a free-standing, what diagnostic capabilities they will have with respect to radiology, etc,.

Gary was at the press conference and was actually picked to ask a question. He had the nerve to ask why the lake was getting the contract and not champion!

Let me tell you what I asked Gov. John Bel Edwards. Our black elected officials blindly support this man and don't even know the details of the plan.
Then he got in his car & filmed himself spewing ignorance

It is a huge step in the right direction, but it shouldn't be enough for anyone in Baton Rouge, to be honest. Before Bobby closed the public hospital, forcing the General to close we had two ERs that served the downtown area of what is actually the largest metro area in the state. After Bobby's shenanigans we had zero. With this announcement, we have still only cleaned up 1/2 of his mess.

It's a free standing ED, meaning they won't take any ambulances. A gunshot wound or any really sick person would have to come through the door and then transported by ambulance to OLOL once stabilized.

His 17 minute Facebook live video agrees with your comment.

Let me guess. He's saying he's upset because it's clear that the white folks no longer want blacks using the "white hospital".

You're gonna have to take a number and get in line behind the thousands of headache victims.

So basically we're going to open a clinic where they can all come in for treatment of whatever ails them and they're guaranteed treatment regardless of ability to pay?

WTF do you think is happening at the Lake?

Weird. OLOL is probably about as close to the center of population for East Baton Rouge as you can possibly get.

UMC-NO probably has more GSW's and more people walking in there holding their own head than the Bronx location of St. Barnabas.

Then count me among those that don't think we need to spend money opening a new and closer location to give them easier access. They can drive those headaches on down to OLOL.
