Thanks for the info y'all. Basically like previously mentioned it looks like JBE is trying to shut up the few but loud that complained so heavily about no ER in north BR.
It's a political response to a real situation.

So basically.....if anything really bad happens to you (heart attack, horrific car accident, etc).....you really better hope you don't happen to be in NBR when it happens.
If anything really bad happens to you, you need to go to the level 1 trauma center. In the NOLA area, if you are shot and in a bad way, or a terrible accident, ambulances pass other hospitals as they speed to UMC.
If anything really bad happens to you in Houston, you don't go to one of the 26 Memorial Hermann hospitals, you go to Ben Taub.
I think it's like that in every city.
What may make Baton Rouge different is the fact that 1) perhaps the location of the Level 1 trauma center is a bit further away from the hotbed of gunshot wounds, compared to other cities and really, 2) traffic in BR is so goddamn terrible due to the layout of the roads and capacity issues that you can't get there very quickly.
Honestly, BR should consider investing in a legit air ambulance service.

an ambulance on site staffed and ready to go at all times.
This is going to be a complete joke if Acadian has the contract, who does the hospital to hospital transports in BR. Unless it's a priority station. God help them tho if there are multiple emergent transfers at different times

North BR doesn't need an ER, it needs a sterilization center and an accompanying roaring furnace disguised as a government welfare office.

Politicians always do things first for political reasons.
But I think the establishment of the facility will both help some people in NBR, and could help take some of the crap load off of the hospital based ERs, especially at the level one trauma center.
So I think there will be some actual benefit as well. Maybe not as much as the people in NBR think.

I don't know a lot about Acadian, why would that be a joke?
What ambulance company responds to 911 emergencies in NBR?

We have invested million, it's called EMS.

It could, but what is so confusing to me is who goes to an ER, and who goes to an Urgent Care Facility.
Are there that many each day that need ER treatment?
And if they do need ER treatment do they need advanced ER treatment that only a certain Ers have (trauma center, etc)?
All I read is people lining up in the ER because they have a sore throat. Don't these people go to Urgent Care?

EMS responds. From the link I provided earlier.

EMS is the first line of defense for emergencies in Baton Rouge, but calls also go through the private Acadian Ambulance Service, which backs up the department. Justin Cox, operations manager for Acadian Ambulance, said the data from EMS provides a better overview of the hospital closure impact because EMS is the primary ambulance provider

I definitely think there will be a benefit there as the cold/flu types will be quick to go to this ER since its in that area of town. However it's just frustrating that no matter the issues around town/state, if the government is involved, the fix is just going to be temporary for the most part.

I'm surprised how much OLOL is geting for this. Very few upgrades need to be made in the Urgent Care on Airline to change to an ER. They already have X-ray and a CT scanner and a Trauma Room.
As far as EMS it would save a lot of money if they made MOST patients uber

It seems, at least in BR, the short answer to this question is no.

LSU has an urgent care on North Foster that is rarely used. I use to work there part time. I saw one patient during the entire LSU-Ole Miss basketball game.

So if they add an ER to the Urgent Care then they will come???
It seems to me like the answer to most people's health problems is right there, and they don't know how or do not care to use it.

I don't know if they do, but their budget is 14,000,000.00 dollars a year.

I am not sure of the motivation behind going to an ER vs an urgent care center, however I do have friends that work at both. For the most part, Medicare recipients frequent the ER for menial bs much more often than the urgent cares, at least from what I hear anyways.
I'm sure there is some kind of time/money motivator behind that decision for the poors. I just don't know what it is

Obviously they do, I'm just trying to figure out why.

quote:This already exists. It's called fast track in most ERs.
The state / OLOL could be really innovative here if they think about this.
The ER will be hooked on to an urgent care center. If people show up at triage with a cold, send them next door to the urgent care center. For things that are above the level of an urgent care, treat them in the ER. stabilize them and then send them to a hospital.
