One thing I will say is that I am glad they didn't bitch out and just kill off nobodies, and it was actually characters with some consequence.

Yeah when they killed Abraham I thought that was an adequate enough level of value to the group and emotional investment from the audience. When they threw Glenn in too they kicked the intensity up a notch. I really liked this episode as a season premier.

To those claiming torture porn the gory moments for Abe and Glenn made up what, 1-2 minutes out of 50? If you spent more of the episode cringing at bashed in heads rather than feeling the feeling of losing control that Rick felt, you're doing it wrong.

This is going to be All Out War right? Well that's how they should fight this war in order to win.

I don't think it's going to be all out war at all. He broke everyone but Maggie. I'm not sure how long the Neegan story line goes in the comics, but I can see them getting a lot of mileage out of this, perhaps even more than a season. Neegan can make the group do things they wouldn't normally do now and take them in all kinds of new directions.

I really liked the idea someone had that I thought would have been more effective. Show the Abraham death in the finale, and then the Glenn death would have been an absolute curveball in the premier.

I agree. Would've been brilliant too, because most people would just be reeling from that brutality and somewhat comfortable. So the whole "well, let's get back to it.." line from Negan/bashing of Glenn would've been a mindfrick.

Like someone else said earlier, as awesome/shocking as it was, it was definitely less so because we've been knowing that at least one person got smoked. They could've milked this so much better.

That being said though, it was still pretty legit.

Don't know about the rest of you but they should have shown them getting Lucille'd last year. The several month wait caused the show to lose that emotional investment. I was totally disconnected from these characters after having to wait so long and knowing somebody was going to get it. It was more relief that we finally got the answer than trauma over losing a character.

So Abe and Glenn got it, so what? Hadn't seen them in months anyways. I'm betting this scene will have more impact with the binge watching people.

All Out War is the name of the series of comics where they fight the Saviors. This season is going to follow the plot to All Out War.

And were those torture porn remarks present when they were lined up in Terminus along that tub while necks were getting slashed and heads were getting bashed in with a metal bat? I mean, that's just as gory and gratuitous as what we saw last night in a lot of ways.

Glenn's death feels cheap because they faked us twice last year with it. We already had the "ZOMG Glenn's dead" panic last year.

This year I was upset we lost Abram and he was really growing on me. I guess this was better than an arrow through the eye on an attack. IDK But then Negan deciding to just kill Glenn right there seemed like a quick cheap kill.

He takes Darryl for torture, but Darryl will be okay 80% of women who watch wouldn't if Darryl died.

Yeah, JDM as Negan is perfect casting. The looks, the physicality, and that cheery, good natured voice while he describes how he's going to rip your head off and shite down your neck.

My favorite Negan quote so far was "you look at me like I shite in your scrambled eggs"

Need a little help... a guy I work with missed the episode and doesnt have DVR or anything like that.. is there a clip online anywheres with the Lucille beatings?? I'm trying to find something that won't spoil it because there's no way he's going to make it to next week without finding out what happened... he doesn't even know that two people got smashed so I'm not sure how to handle this

I personally would've much rather had Daryl be killed than Abraham. Abraham was good for some great one liners and some comic relief. Daryl's storyline doesn't seem to be able to go much further from a character building standpoint. And while the initial shock would've been huge if Daryl would've met Lucille, I think most everyone would've gotten over it (even the women fans) after a few episodes.

Anyone who got spoiled is their own damn fault. I don't trust people, so I don't even look in no spoiler threads on any website before a big premiere or finale episode of any series I care about. Because I know some idiots will probably try to pass off a spoiler as a prediction, or just outright spoil. To each his own I guess.

Oh I agree. But what I find amusing is how the guesses on who would get the bat ranged from the entire cast to all of a sudden dead-on predictions.

"I'll just guess...and this is totally a guess here...that Abraham will get the bat first, and then...again just guessing...Darryl will do something defiant and kill Glenn because of it...but I don't really know for sure..."

and then after the show:

"Oh I was spot on!"

So in other words, it's just like every single other thread about a show that is based on source material.

Tell him to go to the AMC website, he can watch it online there.

I used to frequent a movie message board that had a guy who would do that for multiple films. He'd post twist "predictions" which consistently came true. He got the choice of hiding his predictions with spoiler tags or moving on.

I've read your reviews before. I imagine you watching TV with a pipe and monocle, complaining about the cinematography.

No kidding.

That being said, it would be better if it were with Lucille.

In this case actual spoilers leaked stating specific details of what was going to happen like the dinner scene, the order of who got bashed, and Daryl causing Glenn's bashing (none of which was in the comics). But I know what you are saying about shows based on source material.

With that said, I'm surprised that the spoiler/comic reader thread wasn't started for this season.
