I certainly don't get hot and bothered. Its kind of sad, but I don't give them shite, so what do I really care.
A part of it is also impressive to me. You have to have serious business acumen to do something like that.

I also remember them building this in Ormond thinking it was a subdivision facility of some sort... nope. Just Jesse Duplantis building a house.

I always forget this dude's name, someone on here probably knows it, but there is a documentary on youtube about this dude whose parents groomed him to start preaching when he was like 3 or 4. He explains the tricks to the trade.. frick, his name is something Mar.. something.. but if I can find out his name I can post a link to the documentary.. Its pretty interesting.

100% of Joel Osteens income is book earnings, dvds, etc. He hasn't taken money from Lakewood since 2005. The goal of most preachers is to make yourself known throught the church, then make money off of things like books, cds, etc.
So where do all the donations from the congregation go?

It doesn't bother me, but I guess some people just don't really like the idea of "snake oil salesmen".

Tithing is such a weird thing to me.
For smaller churches/parishes where everyone knows each other personally and the money goes to help each other out in times of need, it makes total sense. That’s a community and it’s great to help each other out.
For these mega churches, it’s a totally different animal. People donate from across state lines to a church they just watch on TV. That blows my fricking mind.

They're running a scam. I don't like cheats and liars parading as the holiest people on the planet. I think it's a side effect of my being a decent person.

one of the smaller mega churches here in the north side of ATL, the pastor lives in a 1.5 million house. His two sone(each have their own church as well) live in about 1.1 million dollar homes.
They moved here from texas to start churches, because of the market

probably because it's the antithesis of what a church should be

I have a classmate that moved to Rendon, Washington after HS to be a youth pastor. That was 21 years ago and he's still a youth pastor. He seems to be doing pretty good for himself.
