The injury bug has certainly bit LSU in recent weeks, with the latest injury being senior backup quarterback Danny Etling suffering a lower back injury, according to sources.
LSU coach Les Miles said Monday Etling is "going to be fine. He's going to practice today. There's a little catch in his get along. Danny is in position to play and play right away."
Miles added that Etling will "absolutely" travel with the team when it goes to Lambeau Field Saturday for the season opener against Wisconsin and expects him to be available to play if "something catastrophic doesn't happen today."
Junior Brandon Harris is the starter for the 2016 season, but Etling was the only backup with college playing experience. Freshman Lindsey Scott Jr. has moved ahead of redshirt freshman Justin McMillan, according to the LSU depth chart released Monday, and would be called on if Harris was sidelined for any given reason.
Etling is said to have injured his back during an LSU scrimmage last Tuesday, which is believed to be peripheral neuropathy, which is inflammation in his sciatic nerve causing radiating pain through his lower extremities. Typically, this injury is caused by a herniated disc or rupture, with the latter being ruled out by sources. Treatment includes rehabilitation and rest, and someone suffering this injury could respond well within days, sometimes taking weeks before becoming fully healed.
Scott has been impressive during his time on LSU's campus, according to sources, and is expected to be on the team's travel squad, regardless of Etling's status. Etling is entering his senior year at LSU, after transferring from Purdue following the 2014 season.

The legend of Lindsey Scott Jr will soon begin to take form

Scott may be young and have arm limitations but he is a chain-mover. I'll take him in a pinch all day long.

What about #12 from Texas? Not sure if good news Scott is ahead of him for the backup spot or not.

Scott will be put in late. He'll complete about 2-3 passes...and tRant will be screaming for him to be the starter

Oh shite, well I hope it is nothing serious and Etling is good to go next week.

Brandon bet not get hurt. He will never see the job again after my boy Scott sees the field.

Had a herniated L5-S1 and it took surgery to fix it. Not fun at all

I have an uncle with sciatic pain.... Nothing to be messing with. It heals then the pain comes back at the most random and unexpected times. Hope Danny gets healthy soon

The rise of Lindsey Scott Jr has begun

Dude will hand the ball off to Williams like a beast.

Yeah Miles probably won't risk a pass all season. ![](https://images.tigerdroppings.com/Images/Icons/Iconbanghead.gif)

Is there any chance that this hit to QB depth results in Harris being cautioned against running?
Normally I'd think not, but I'll be nervous any time he takes a hit.

I can almost guarantee that our gameplanning now will be based strictly off avoiding contact with BH6...
