Who the hell makes a list of 8?

With the exception of USC it's the 900 wins club and USC has a LOT of national championships.

It will definitely give us more respect in espns eyes lol. What also is overlooked is the division we play in and in which conference we happen to be affiliated with. We play in the toughest division in college football bar none, and it's been that way for a while now. We have to play bama every season. I promise you that if you take some of those "blue bloods" on their list and put them in LSUs position and competing against who we have to week in and week out, year in and year out, both in recruiting and on the field...some of them wouldn't have had nearly as much success as they have had historically. I promise you that. The sec has always been a tough arse league and our division has always been tough as well. Whatever, frick that list, geaux tigers.

Nebraska’s downfall was the BCS era. They only scheduled cupcakes and won AP titles from votes of ignorant sportswriters. When put up against real competition, they faltered, and quickly became irrelevant.

I think ESPNs definition of “Blue Blood” isn’t the same thing most of us mean when we talk about Blue Bloods. Oklahoma and Nebraska maybe historic programs but they certainly don’t get the same exceptional treatment that teams like Ohio State, USC and Alabama get.

I really don’t care. All I care about is the now as far as the program is concerned.

Tom Osborne retiring is what ended Nebraska’s dominance. It wasn’t about cupcakes, they rolled the SEC champ in 2 of his final 3 seasons at Nebraska by a combined score of (104-41). He was 11-1 vs the top 25 during that span including 8-0 vs top 10 opponents.

I cant argue with the list. Ask the same question in 10-20 years.

I am proud of LSU at 9. That's a great compliment

We’re usually 10-12 on these lists. Usually around Florida, uga, penn state and teams like that. A fair comparison but the mid80s-mid90s really hurt us

Another heisman and national championship would certainly help.

Conference realignment had a lot to do with it. They were used to playing one legitimate regular season game a year.

I'm fine with LSU in the top 10 for that ranking but Nebraska as a "Blue Blood"?...

Not sure where you guys are getting the “Nebraska played weak schedules” theory from. The 3 seasons prior to the BCS Nebraska went undefeated twice and had 1 loss in the other season. Here’s their ranked opponents.
1997- #2 Washington, #17 K-State, #14 ATM, #3 Tennessee
1996- #17 ASU, #16 K-State, #5 Colorado, #10 V-Tech
1995- #8 K-State, #7 Colorado, #10 Kansas, #2 Florida

Yal are just not remembering correctly because they played and embarrassed a lot of highly ranked teams throughout the 90s.

I don't think Michigan is a blue blood. I believe they only have one national championship and Bo Schembechler typically wet his pants during bowl games. A large part of their wins are more than 80 or 90 years old and came when football was a much different sport.

LSU is a Blue Blood program, and has been one since Y.A. Tittle in the 1940's.

Not even a byline on that clueless article. Tells me that no one was willing to put their name on that mindless drivel.

LSU really needs to claim the 1908 title, NCAA even recognizes them on their website...

LINK

LSU was the most western school to win the NC at the time, all schools before that were the Ivy League, Rutgers, Chicago and Michigan, until Texas A&M won it in 1919...

LSU has everything it needs to be a blue blood program.

Just need more championships and consistency.

No other program offers the combo of in state talent, facility, power conference, money, leadership (now) and fanbase support

I’ll take top ten especially considering we are the second ranked school out of the SEC on this list.

What’s crazy is the down period we had from 1958-2000. Just imagine if we were competing during that period.
