Someone said this to me during the course of a conversation this week:

"Anything Miles has won of significance at LSU has been with Saban's players."

I don't necessarily agree with it because of the 2011 season despite the terrible end to it.

What does the rant think about this? True or False?

Was being told that by a Florida fan last year at the game the whole time. And then we beat them. So frick em.

But that logic is dumb. Les has always had elite talent.

False. Miles took over a 3 loss program that had 1 top 5 finish in over 2 decades.

Ask that person if you remove Saban and Urban, what coach has the success of Les since 2005?

And then when he goes dumb on you, let him know those are the two most accomplished coaches in recent - and maybe all-time CFB history. Then remind him, Les has had to coach against both 6 seasons(Urban) and 9 seasons(Saban) in the same 12/14-team league.

Miles has his flaws, but 2011 was an SECC season and would have been a NC season if Saban didn't get a do-over after losing at home to LSU in "game of the century".

This is such a ridiculous statement. Why did Saban go 9-3 with his own players in 2004? How does Saban lose to freaking Iowa in a bowl game with his players at LSU?

Miles won a championship in 2007.. Saban left when again? 2004ish? I would imagine the bulk of his entire roster were guys he recruited, and if not.. they are all guys he had to develop. Also, most of those guys were coming to LSU regardless of the coach.

Miles had one of the greatest regular seasons ever in 2011 as well.

Harder to do than with your own players. When was the last time Saban won anything with someone else's players? What a stupid argument.

False. The only way this it's true is if you say that Saban won with Dinardo's players.

For this to be true, he would have to won with no players of his own. If any of his recruits played, the statement is false.

Was this said in 2006?

Because that's the very last season that argument would hold any sort of credence.

It's a 12 year old argument and it's ridiculous for people to bring it up.

Not saying you're ridiculous but what I mean is that at this point, 12 years later, you'd think people (mostly non fans of LSU) would've gotten past it.

Moreover, the same could be applied to just about every other coach, Saban with Shula's players, Meyer with Zook's players, Harbaugh with Hoke's players, and so on.

Miles seems to generally get the shaft for some unknown reason yet he continues to bring in top recruiting class after top recruiting class and I don't understand why he gets so much grief.

It's as if all the rules apply to Saban, Meyer, so forth but Miles just gets dumped on because of his quirky mannerisms. That's it.

I'm a big fan of Miles and he's one of the best. Yes, he gets frustrating at times but make no mistake, he's a good coach.

Kinda sounds like you already know the answer.

Guess sometimes you just have to start a thread about something tho

I guess it depends on the definition of "won of significance". If we are talking about national championships, then they are right. If an SEC championship is considered significant, there was 2011. If we assume that the last year that "Saban's players" were on the team was 2008, only one other team in the SEC outside of Alabama has won anything significant -- Auburn.

I feel sorry for Miles in a way in that his career is being overshadowed by arguably the greatest college in the history of college football in Nick Saban. How many more SEC or national championships would Miles would have won if Alabama had not been so dominant?

It is 2016 and only 5 schools in the SEC have won an SEC title this millennium. LSU, Georgia, Florida, Auburn and Alabama. So most schools have not won anything of significance...period.

These comparisons need to stop. People need to quit bringing it up and quit acknowledging it when other dummies bring it up. Saban has been gone over a decade and people still say this?
A lot of this falls on LSU fans for giving it a second thought. It's stupid and we need to let it go.

What constitutes "Saban" players and "Miles" players? Is it merely a result of who recruited them? Because that's a pretty stupid metric.

Saban at Bama won two division titles and national title at Bama with players from the previous coach and his 2nd national title had a few red shirts so that could taint his record at BAMA.

Really stupid to make this statement about Saban or Miles.

So by that logic Saban won at bama with Shula's players ( I believe) and Urban won at Fla. with Zook's? And from the LSU perspective, Saban won with DiNardo's players? This argument is so old it's ridiculous.

False, and not really even worth discussing at this point. In 2011, Miles was in his 7th season, won the SEC title and went to the NC game. That was obviously something of significance and equally obviously all his own players.
