Question: If you have flood insurance do you need to still file a claim with FEMA? I know a family that lives all next door to each other. They all had flood insurance and one of them told me that she had already spoken to an adjuster (her agent is her son in law so she got through a little quicker maybe??) for her flood insurance.

I've never flooded but have insurance in a flood zone and have no clue .. just wondering if I should pass this info on if they should still file with FEMA.

I'm registering now. Didn't flood, but the crazy amount of rain caused a roof leak that destroyed carpet and some furniture

Is there a formula that is used to determine funds received? Is it totally subjective? Anybody have experience with this?

What did he ask to see? How did he initially contact you to set up the appointment?

He asked to see picture id and proof of ownership (we had the deed to the house since we don't have a mortgage). He asked some questions: how many people live there, how many beds are slept in at night, did anyone incur medical or dental expenses as a result of the flood, did we lose all of our clothes, is anyone required to wear a uniform to work that was destroyed, how many square feet is the house, etc.

He measured the water line, took pictures and walked through the house room by room with a form on an iPad noting things like what appliances we had, whether they were functional, asking if we had a radio in the house, how many televisions, etc. Said he would submit his report today and we would hear something within 10 days. I checked online tonight and it says it was submitted and of the four areas that we were eligible for assistance it says pending for three of them but ineligible for moving /storage assistance.

He said he didn't need to see the a/c unit or whole house generator based on the water line - 1 ft, 8.inches.

Make sure you have your proof of ownership ready. I didn't and he wasn't going to wait for me to find it. Luckily we found it before he left.

Yes, he called on Tuesday to set up the appointment. The inspection took maybe 30 minutes. 2700 sq ft house.

Be prepared to be disappointed. Brother got 3 inches of water. We tore out all the floors, cut Sheetrock up, etc. They aren't getting anything. FEMA says their house is livable.

There is literally no point in working hard. I'd rather be a leech at this point.

Oh I'm fully expecting to be disappointed. This isn't my house. It is my grandfather's house. He is 94. Lived there almost 50 years. Not in a flood zone. Has never flooded. This is horrible. I have him living with me now. I have a three year old, two year old and I am 8 months pregnant. My husband is taking off to work to get some of the wet stuff out and his personal belongings. It seems like everyone who could help us is either working on their own home or has to work. I'm scared to spend too much time in the house because of the baby. The demo work is too much for us to do alone. We are meeting with someone tomorrow to get a quote. My grandfather doesn't want to go back. I wish we could just walk away from it.

I'm guessing they'll wait to see what insurance does first... then FEMA determines how much they'll pay?

They came to my sisters house yesterday. Said check your bank account in 3 - 5 days. They didn't tell her a dollar figure or anything.

I really wish we had access to whatever flowchart they use to determine eligibility. You know these people aren't making a decision on their own. They are putting info into a program that tells them what happens next.

Damn if my wifes grand mother does not get assistance they might as well just bulldoze her house. Not even sure how that could be paid for. She has nothing. Got 43 inches. Working my arse off getting out 40 years of shite.

Didn't have flood insurance

Wouldn't a Zone A home be required to have insurance?

Anyone that registered on Monday hear anything from FEMA? Like even just a phone call to set up the inspection?

So does the couple in another area with no mortgage and flood insurance get the same answer? Surely claims are being treated fairly right?? Like with no human element and let the matric decide.
