Is anyone ever going to top Babe Ruth's all time WAR?

Babe Ruth accumulated the most WAR in baseball history with 168.4
Is this something that will stand forever? The best chance we currently have is Mike trout and he's only ( ) been worth 45.4 WAR over almost 5 full seasons
It just seems like someone averaging over 10 WAR for 16 seasons just isn't happening

The only thing I really learned from this thread is that Jessica Mendoza should not be an announcer on Sunday night baseball

No because players now have to play against hispanics and blacks.

Let's not forget the Asians

I've been watching baseball my whole life and haven't started hearing this stat until this board the last couple years. Why does this board jackoff the WAR stats?

It's almost worse with the NBA. The MSB basically rates everyone by PER and says basketball is a team sport, so championships/record are irrelevant in comparing players.

Yea. People who evaluate players by their performance are stupid

Babe Ruth hit more HRs one season than the rest of the American League teams combined. No one is going to approach that again.

except they did play negro league players and Babe's numbers (although limited) were just as good or better. Normally, the first few times you see a pitcher the hitter is supposedly at a disadvantage.
quote:
Bill Jenkinson has documented 16 exhibition games in which Ruth played against black pitchers.
He also mentions 3 other games for which there isn't any contemporary primary sources.
Below is a summary of how he performed in the documented games per Jenkinson:
AB - 55
1B - 11
2B - 2
3B - 0
HR - 12
BA - .455
SA - 1.145
This includes his 3 jacks in one game off "Cannonball" Dick Redding in 1927. Before I read his book I had independently collected many of the same games and a few others from ProQuest, and John Holway's book.
The sample size isn't large but he his rate stats against black pitchers is much better than the best hitting stats of the best black players of the time in Negro League play.

And Hank Aaron hit only 67 HR's ve non white pitchers...Willie Mays less than that.We gonna throw out their records?

The integration argument has little to do with hitting against black pitchers. It's more about dominance against their peers. Oscar Charleston might have been the greatest all-around baseball player to ever play the game. He finished among the top five Negro Leaguers in batting average and home runs and was as the all-time Negro League leader in stolen bases. But you and most of this board have probably never heard of him because he was shut out by a racist baseball establishment. Same thing with Turkey Stearnes and Mule Suttles and Cristobal Torriente and a plethora of other black players in Ruth's day. I can also point to the dominance of the National League vs the American League in the '50s and '60s. The National League beat the AL in the All-Star Game every single year and was a much stronger league overall because they had all the great black and hispanic position players such as Willie Mays, Hank Aaron, Roberto Clemente, Frank Robinson, Ernie Banks, Willie Stargell, Willie McCovey, Roy Campanella, Dick Allen and the list goes on and on. Frank Robinson was a complete afterthought his last year with the Reds, goes over to the American League with the Orioles and wins the Triple Crown. The league disparity was enormous. You're lying to yourself if you don't believe integration didn't have a huge effect on the overall quality of the game.

I think the number is pretty telling and if we're talking strictly HR numbers it somewhat of an undeniable number. Babe bashing is a cottage industry and the intergration argument is constantly thrown out there to discount his accomplishments. It's an imaginary what if red herring.

Huh?The AL won 6 of 10 World Series in the 50's and NL won 6 of 10 in 60's. FAR from dominance.

No it wasn't or it would have been obviously reflected in post season play and it wasn't...not in the 50's,60's and especially the 70's.(AL also won 6 of 10)

Well, I'm not saying Ruth wouldn't have dominated in an integrated league. Of course he would have. But I don't think he would have led the league in WAR 10/12 years and OPS 13/14 years in a more global, diverse sport. It just wouldn't be possible.

Who cares about the World Series? It just means the American League usually the Yankees had the best overall team. The National League went 24-2 against the American League in All-Star games from 1960-1982. You look at the MVP lists for both leagues in the '50s and '60s The National League had players like Roy Campanella, Willie Mays, Hank Aaron, Ernie Banks, Roberto Clemente, Willie McCovey and Bob Gibson winning MVPs, all of whom were HOF players of color. Than you compare that to the American League where you had players like Bobby Shantz and Al Rosen and Jackie Jensen and other no-name players winning MVPs.

Again, how does one series between two teams reflect the quality of one league over another? It's like saying the ACC was a stronger football league than the SEC in 2013 because the best team in the ACC (Florida State) beat the best team in the SEC (Auburn) in the BCS NCG. That game didn't prove that the ACC was better than the SEC. It only showed that Florida State was a better team than Auburn. The same logic applies to the World Series.

Your right, why even have a playoffs or World Series because we all know an a ONE GAME EXHIBITION is a far better measuring stick than 162 game regular season then a league championship and World Series.

Again who does one series against 2 teams reflect the qulity of one league of another
This coming from the person who uses a 1 game exhibition to measure the qulity of 1 league over another...unbelievable.
Jesus, now your comparing a 1 game CFB BCS result vs best of 7 baseball result???Do you honestly know how absurd you sound?
