Do shootings and other crimes go down in Chicago in the winter? Seems like if it's reaaly cold no one would be hanging out on street corners selling dope. Less opportunity for drive-bys.

Chicago Murder Stats

According to the link above which goes back to 2012, it appears as if the cold weather does have some what of a calming effect, with Feb having the fewest murders typically.

ETA: obviously Feb is the shortest month of the year so that also contributes to having fewer murders. but starting around November the murders trend down typically.

ETA: Another interesting tidbit: your safest days are Tuesdays.

You're equating all types of crime. A murder in Chicago is the same as a car being stolen or vandalism in Houston, for example. Chicago has a higher rate of murder, rape, and assault.
