and you would have been shot for reaching for your ID. You're right, your life would have been over in 1 minute.

Bunch of dumb mf's in here. The dumb frick would not get out of the car. A cop is serving a warrant and the dud will not leave the car after repeatedly being told to get out. I guess the cops should have just left at that point and told their chief that the perp wouldn't get out so they left.
Hey dumb asses if you don't obey a cops orders to get out of the car you are forcing their hand to use force.
YES, IT IS THAT SIMPLE!

Why?

The always arrest the people for an obvious reason, they want a civil release, so will offer to drop charges in exchange for a release. It has happen to me many times with clients. If he does not get an attorney he will agree

A cop is serving a warrant

Why?
Because about 99.9999% of the encounters with LEOs go legally and smoothly, IF you just comply. If you feel like you are bulletproof and act in that manner, they will likely try and prove you wrong Mr. BADASS.

No, so you can't lump these cops and the way they handled this into the 99.99999% that go smoothly. The cops are every bit to blame for it not going smoothly. They're not without major fault here

Hey everyone has a bad day. They jolted the dude, he is still alive. These days they usually die from lead poisoning....These guys might get promoted for saving a life.
Why do you hate the Police so much? You look like you may be a criminal.

I watched the video, read the 1st page and the last page. I'm sure I will be covered in downvotes for saying this. It is hard for a bunch of reasonably well educated, white guys to understand what Patrick sees when 3 cops come up on him, just as he can not understand how we feel if we somehow get caught in a bad place and 3 blacks guys walk up on one of us. The relationship between blacks and cops is different than the one I have. I have kind of had my eyes opened a bit more in the past 10 days...Most of these shooting incidents and 'deaths' have just been viewed through ONE lens by all of us.
Should blacks comply...absolutely. It is so easy for us to say that and for me to type that, but I don't think we have a full perspective on the whole deal.
I think you're correct!
The issue is "how do we make the situation better?"
I think it starts with attitude and changes in decision making.
Whites are being asked to understand...we can't
Whites won't change perceptions until behavior and attitude changes
So it all goes hand in hand
spewing hate just makes it worse
Blacks are just mad...nothing we can do about it
One suggestions, let's stop calling Blacks African Americans
they aren't....they are Americans...they were born here
so let's drop that little bit of labeling for starters
I think they have to get permission from MSNBC though

Tell them your full name.
Comply.
Be respectful.
Hand over ID slowly.
When they say get out of the car, just do it.
Patrick is a hard-headed dumb MF.
What's so hard about this? Officers did what they had to do.

If a cop with a tazer and a gun tells me to get out of my car... I am getting out of the car.
What is the technical term for not getting out of the car when they tell you to for the second time?

These overly dramatic comparisons to North Korea and other totalitarian regimes are hilarious.
These cops were performing their job by lawfully seeking to arrest a subject wanted for assault. The address matched. So they got out of their vehicles to assess whether or not there was someone present who matched the description. They thought Patrick resembled the subject and attempted to establish his identity. At this point he is not free to go. He is lawfully detained, but there is not yet cause to restrain him nor to arrest him. His initial reluctance will of course seem suspicious. Giving your first name does not establish identity. Of course if he gave the name of the wanted individual he would have been arrested immediately. With any other answer, the cops are duty bound to establish a greater degree of certainty than taking his word for it. At the very least there will be follow up questions by a lead officer.
The added factor is the cops are giving lawful commands (to step out of the car, just like on a traffic stop) and Patrick begins to not only NOT comply- which he is obligated to do, but begins doing the opposite. At this point the decision to restrain him is made regardless of what his true identity is. This is why they decide to use non lethal force to effect the arrest and taze him.
On a separate video (one not edited by Patrick's attorney), after he is cuffed you can hear his family members telling him to cooperate- even they see the wisdom of not being belligerent toward cops who have been unable to establish his identity. One or more of the family members can be heard understanding why the cops thought he resembled the guy they were looking for.
In my opinion the cops were aggressive, but not unlawful. It may be unwise for them to be aggressive, but it's not unlawful. When it comes to taking someone into custody, being aggressive results in quicker compliance. It worked in this case.
