The family involved in this incident seemed very decent to me. I guess the cops didn't want to say exactly who they were looking for so that no one had a chance to warn the guy to get out of the area. If they would have said exactly who they were looking for, it would have solved the whole issue. I wonder what the warrant was for anyway?

Serious question, Is Patrick mildly retarded?

For me it's being put in the cops shoes, Patrick could have had a gun under his seat, "I just got back from my probation officer" means "I'm not going back in"....I'd have a hard time not erroring in my own safety....me being safe is wrong?
All I know is, the cops wanted a name and ID, didn't go well
the guy was minding his own business, but he is on probation which suggest maybe he isn't an angel
Don't know....
hard to care about this crap
so much going on in the world
everyone needs to deal with their own problems in the right way.
Don't trust cops?
Well, sorry I can't change it
Don't trust black people?
well, sorry I can't change it

If they hauled me off to jail what would be the charge? Sitting in my yard and peacefully complying with law enforcement?
Why does everyone trust these specific cops? They gave you no reason to, they gave every indication that they were out to protect themselves

That is the underlying point in the culpability of the cops here. They did a terrible job of giving concise direct orders about IDing himself. Once they realized he was impaired, stupid or handicapped they should have stopped yelling at him, slowed down and got control of the verbal exchange.
My issue with cops today is these tactics they use are seemingly more occupational forces type of interactions and control. Couple that with using light infantry equipment and military training and it is scary at times to see these videos. Being confrontational with edgy cops that are trained in self preservation first is incredibly stupid.

What a conundrum for you if you ever face a crisis situation where you need to call police for help
Call them and face your own hypocrisy?
Don't call them and face the crisis yourself?
What to do, what to do?
Wont be an issue for me. I'll be calling for them to come help the guy with bullet holes on the ground. If you are depending on that 20 minute response time then you are fricked before you start.

People that bag my groceries frick up all the time. I'm still gonna ask them to bag my groceries. What's even worse is that we pay these stupid arse power tripping wannabes.

Which I understand in initially asking his name instead of asking "are you Michael"
But they don't get to go do whatever they want under the guise of wanting the easiest path to serving the warrant.

This this a thousand times this. They will create offenses to arrest you for if you dont show them the proper respect (that you in no way owe them). Had one once say I was being disorderly because I was upset my truck was fricked up in the wreck he was there to write up and slammed my truck door. Searched my truck and found my pain meds for my back (which I was scheduled for surgery for the following week). Had a prescription for them, but the way they do scripts for opiates now, docs can only give you 30 days worth of pills, then the script is no good. Well, I had not taken as many as they said to, because I didnt need to and wanted to reduce my hour long trips to the doc to get refills. Well since it was past 30 days, they had a "real" charge now (I got arrested for taking fewer pills than recommended) and oddly enough the original charge never appeared anywhere... mainly because it was never true.
Cops will frick you in a heartbeat to save their own arse. Once they commit to force, you are catching a charge. No exceptions

I have a better chance of winning using my own as opposed to using a telephone and cowering in a corner

No wonder inept, power-hungry cops have carte blanche to do whatever the hell they want.

nt. The knuckle dragging masses made up of people like you allow them to. Pathetic.

Its a good thing it doesnt matter what you think I sound like. I'm a law abiding citizen that complies with officers when they are within their bounds and tells them to call my lawyer when they exceed it. Luckily that's only happened once. They declined to make the call and I went on my way.

Police don't get to taze or shoot or beat you because you don't say please and thank you. There's a power differential and a duty of care that we should demand from authority figures.
Yea, we can call Patrick a schmuck but ultimately Patrick has no authority over you or I or anyone else. So don't be his friend and go along your merry way. The officer does though and that means we should be much more concerned by his lack of professionalism. You know, because he is the trusted professional making big judgement calls that can hugely effect (or end) lives.

Dude, if that happened to me, it would have been over in one minute. I would have told them they obviously have me mistaken for someone else, shown them my license, and wished them a happy day.
Why be confrontational? They're just doing their job.

I watched the video, read the 1st page and the last page. I'm sure I will be covered in downvotes for saying this. It is hard for a bunch of reasonably well educated, white guys to understand what Patrick sees when 3 cops come up on him, just as he can not understand how we feel if we somehow get caught in a bad place and 3 blacks guys walk up on one of us. The relationship between blacks and cops is different than the one I have. I have kind of had my eyes opened a bit more in the past 10 days...Most of these shooting incidents and 'deaths' have just been viewed through ONE lens by all of us.
Should blacks comply...absolutely. It is so easy for us to say that and for me to type that, but I don't think we have a full perspective on the whole deal.

Patrick really wasn't confrontational, after he sat back down he was being obstinate to the point that he got four prongs in the back and two doses of 2000v
What is strange is they asked him his name three times, he didn't answer one, he muttered "ok patrick" the 2nd and then he said "uhhhh Patrick" the third time. Everything until then was calm, they told him to stand up, he did then he immediately sat back down, grabbed the steering wheel and refused every order. What happened in his mind when after he stood up he then thought it was a good idea to sit back down in the car and grab the steering wheel? Everything went to hell at that point when he sat down.
Patrick is a dumb MFer
