In building through the draft, the Lakers have

PG: Russel
SG: Clarkson
SF: Ingram
PF: Randle
C: Mozgov

Question being, if the Lakers are a high lottery team next year, what do you feel is the best move for them?

A) A solid big/ rim protector
B) A solid 2 that can move Clarkson to a 6th man role
C) A solid 3 (Giles/Tatum) that can move Ingram to the 2

This is all assuming that they continue to strike out in Free Agency for the next few years.

Bonus: Do you think that Walton is the coach that will bring this group along and will help them to reach their potential?

I doubt the Lakers keep their pick next year. It's top 3 protected and I just don't see us getting that lucky again.

I love our young core you listed + Nance and Zubac and I'm hoping like hell LA signs Westbrook.

I can see the Lakers being competitive. Their roster has quietly become one of the better "quality" rosters. Not a lot of wins but something in the neighborhood of 34-36 wins. Against the teams that don't play defense they should be able to win a few of those. I hate saying this because I hate all things LAL and California for that matter (minus the A's).

Far, far away. I do like the kid they got in round 2 (Zubac). I think he has a ceiling of Marc Gasol, but it's going to take a while. He's only 19 years old.

The Lakers have some solid players for sure. Clarkson and Ingram are the two pieces you absolutely keep moving forward. Eventually, I think the Lakers move Russell. He's got a lot of value, and I think there's still some lingering, negative locker room vibes regarding his video of Swaggy P. I've thought for a while that the Lakers will offer Russell for Boogie Cousins as the two teams have been in talks for a while now. Boogie is gone in two years, so the Kings should try to move him while they can still get an asset in return. With Rondo's exit, they could use a talented young point that can facilitate and score. The Lakers could obviously use a star that can clear the glass AND stretch the floor. Boogie's attitude worries me, but he brings a lot to the table that few bigs offer.

By moving Russell, there's a void left for Westbrook to fill. This wouldn't be a bad starting five if these two moves happened:

PG - Westbrook
SG - Clarkson
SF - Ingram
PF - Randle
C - Boogie

Nance and Deng are both solid bench guys, and I like their second round pick Zubac. They need to find some wing defenders to fill the bench, because Swaggy/Lou Williams aren't helping the team

Kobe set them back so much.

I do like the Zubac guy though. I think he can be a starting C in the league.

next year will be key in free agency.

I think Ingram is more of a Rashard Lewis than a Kevin Durant

If they had Westbrook which means minus dome of the names you mentioned the Lakers are still years away from championships and maybe a 7 seed

For the first time in a few years the Lakers at least have a group of players with potential. The season will have to play out to see what players will improve enough for the Front Office to develop a firmer strategy.

Kobe's swan song of a season wreaked havoc on young players attitude when the focus had less to do with winning than just enduring the circus like atmosphere on and off the court. You can't even say last season was a rebuilding season. It was playground basketball all year. This upcoming season will be different. Not the playoffs so much as a look in to see what they have or don't have. Walton will be coaching his young arse off for sure.

Russell. Don't write him off yet.

Ingram. Real deal.

Clarkson. Improved team player and scorer.

Randle. Needs to get better to not become trade bait.

Zuboc. Raw. He is part of the reason Mosgov was brought in.

Mosgov. Serviceable center. Much like the Warriors center was the last two years.

Deng. Will be a stabilizing and effective player.

Nance. Will continue to work motive.

Like someone said earlier, this could be a 36, 37, or 38 win season barring no injuries.

Russell is a team cancer
Clarkson -
Ingram - 180 pounds, will get demolished in the post and on defense
Randle - undersized 4
mozgov - bench player

They're a couple of years from even being in playoff conversation.
