Yes. I'll say it'll be very reminiscent of 2007.
I expect the defense to give up a few big plays while they get accustomed to the 3-4, but if we generate pressure, and keep their rushing under 200 (which may seem like a lot, but it they'll force the rush the vast majority of the time), I'll expect VERY BIG things this year.
Special teams will be interesting to gauge.
Can't wait to see how D.Jackson is utilized, and who ends up being the #3 receiver.
It's about the best early season "test" we could ask for.
37-9 LSU.

The 2007 offense was the best I've seen at LSU. You think 2016 will be as good?
Posted on 6/23/16 at 2:31 am to biglego
IF the OLine changes are picked up and the re-arrangement gels, then yes. I think it'll be 2007/2013 good.
Flynn + Perriloux is probably (obviously) a better combo than Harris and whoever.
Dupre, Dural, Johnson/Ferguson/Davis/Chark/Sullivan/Anderson > Lafell, Byrd, Toliver
Fournette and Guice >>> Williams and Scott
But it all starts on the OL. That unit has the talent and experience to be excellent. The new positions make me nervous, but I expect the coaches will figure that out.

Part of the reason this board melts every time something doesn't go our way is because yall set yourselves up with these unrealistic expectations. This board spewed the same nonsense about "going in dry" 2 years ago right before we fell behind 24-7.
Wisconsin is a good team, and we still have no idea what to expect from our passing attack.

Yeah. I just hope we don't have to sit through another year wondering how many games we can win without a passing game. If Harris is half as good as Flynn and te OL is as good as we hope, it'll be special.
Still don't know how our offense will ever score on Bama though.

The defense should be good enough to hold down Wisky, but there's no reason to think LSU can score many points on a quality team. The passing game worked against VT. It's been years since LSU has been able throw so I'll believe it when I see it.
The running game should be as dominant as it was last season, and we have an experienced QB coming back, along with our top 2 WRs. I think we're going to rape them with play-action. This will go on enough to force Wisky to back out and try to play honest, and then Fournette and Guice will destroy them.
I really believe we're going to win in a shockingly easy manner, and come out of this game as the early favorite.

UW defense is going to be the clear strength of the team. The offense, and particularly the QB position, are what concerns me.
I wouldn't be surprised by an LSU blowout, but a close game also wouldn't shock me. If this was game 7 of the year it'd be a lot easier. But for game 1...who the hell knows for sure...

So you’re telling me despite losing your all-world DC (to your opponent), losing nearly your entire secondary(CB and both Safeties), and an OLB, that the defense will be the strength?

Yup. It's a unit that was #2 in total defense last year, and despite those losses will still be far and away the most talented side of the ball.

Right, with Aranda's scheme and coaching.

Hopefully we can throw the ball, because that is clearly you're most inexperienced unit.

Wisconsin will take a clear step back in coaching, but this is a traditionally solid, disciplined unit. They've finished Top-25 in Total Defense for seven consecutive seasons. I do not expect that to change, especially returning six of the front seven.
Joe Schobert was a phenomenal OLB, but Wisconsin still returns three of four LBs, one of which was rated as the No. 1 OLB by PFF in 2015. Jack Cichy, the kid that had three consecutive sacks against USC in the Holiday Bowl, will not even be a starter!
The big question in the defensive backfield is not at CB, given Derrick Tindal has started multiple games in his career and has plenty of meaningful clock. Coupling him with Sojourn Shelton (four-year starter) is a formidable set of defensive backs. The questions arise at safety with Arrington Farrar and D'Cota Dixon becoming full-time starters for the first time.
Narrative can quickly change, but Chitown_Badger is correct in that Wisconsin's defense should be the strength going into the fall.

And don't get me wrong, in no way am I saying UW will dominate, win, whatever. Just where our strenghts lie, and this defense shouldn't (emphasis on that word) get rolled over.
But the great part is it's not a hypothetical and we will all get to see what happens.

We have not scored on them twice in recent memory. Once under saban with Jimbo, and once under Miles with stud.

There is no reason for LSU to NOT do something like a VT '07 or an Oregon in 2011. When properly motivated, only Alabama can truly stay with LSU and its talent.
To be honest , I was really surprised at the VT game in 2007. Tech had one of the best defenses in the country coming back and we just had our way with them. It was remarkable.

I think it's a bit much to expect a team in the first game of the year on the road to play like that 07 team did vs Va Tech. It just doesn't happen often anywhere to be honest.
LSU should win by 10 or more but I would not be surprised if LSU won with a FG at the end or something.

Your boys are gonna need more than a horrible officiating crew to win that one.
And if you think y'all are gonna hold LSU to under 50 yards rushing, you're out of your mind.

We just need a good qb to make great decisions.
that's not all we need. we need our blockers to give him time to find the WR and we need him to make mostly accurate throws to them.
and we'll need to stop the run. wisky is known for stout OL's and a very good run game.
