I think if he were on a team with strong leadership
This team has strong leadership for the 2 games a year when someone bumps AD hard enough to piss him off but not so hard that he misses the next 5 games. Part of the reason this board is so in love with Hield is the leadership void.

Guard the rim at an above avg level or better Defend on the perimeter at above avg or better Hit FT's at or above 70 percent Be at least a mid range threat offensively
so basically we have to be trading for the best center in the league who really doesn't exist. Maybe Towns fits those criteria. Im sure they would be open to trading for him lol

Very accurate.

Yeah, it honestly is why I am concerned abut leadership potential from our draft pick.
I think Gentry gets bit of a bad wrap for his poor first year but no one would confuse him with a strong leader like Thibs or Pop. So you kinda need to get that fire from the locker room and from someone that is a core piece. Chemistry is a pretty underrated component to a teams success and is often forgotten about this time of year.
We need a guy who can grow with the organization and grow into a strong leader, hates losing and can motivate guys to step up. Hield and Valentine are two obvious ones.

It's the main reason I'm not anti-Hield. His skill set screams role playing starter on this roster, but his leadership may let him be much more important. Draymond has certainly taken over a role that Steph isn't well suited for, which lets Steph go out and lead by example.

There is no exact blueprint - we wont have a guy be our Curry, or Bogut, or Steve Nash, or whoever. We need to just build the best way we can with the resources available to us
There definitely isnt an exact blueprint but we do have some strong guidelines. Three point shooting, a good amount of willing passers, mostly two-way players, etc. Plus we have a system coach so it gives us a bit more specifications for what we need to acquire.
Which is why I am skeptical of a guy like Okafor being a core piece. He seems like a guy that would be borderline great if he came into his peak 10 years ago. I admit though, I haven't got to watch a ton of the guy so I am certainly open to persuasion.

I really like his leadership, work ethic and mentality. I can't remember ever being so high on a persons intangibles like Hield has done for me.
The guy really, really hates to lose and one thing MM said a while back that always stuck with me is that people within the organization feel this core group has a lot of people that like to win but don't hate to lose.

I just see him more than a traditional, back to the basket center. I think he could check all the boxes you need for the offense and defense.
I just don't jive with the whole, "let's pick apart a guys game and ignore the potential" way of thinking. So Okafor can't play defense... Murray and Hield can shoot, but not play defense. Dunn can play defense and not shoot. But everyone assumes they can adapt and get better in those aspects, but Okafor is written off How does that make any sense?
Now, if you just don't want to spend a money on a center after the bad signings of the past, ok, I understand that. Address the wing first and look for another opportunity to land a center

We aren't getting one of the "non-miss players" in this draft. All of them have questions. I think it comes down to whether you think Okafor has more potential than what we can get at #6. That's potentially Dunn, Heild, Murray or Bender.
I'd have to think Okafor's potential is more higher than those guys.

I'm gonna drop this because it won't happen anyway, but one thing that bothers me is that people just mention an age and then say, "So he can still get better."
That's just not true. For example, Greivis Vasquez's lateral movement was never getting better. Not at 22, not at 24, not now.
Similarly, there are some traits that we just know a guy will NEVER improve and/or ones that are 1 in a 1000. Like, I'm willing to bet Drimmond never shoots 70 percent from the line. No matter how much he practices
The guys who stink at 29 were once 22. Guys don't just automatically improve and there are some areas where we know they never will. Okafor will never even be average guarding on the perimeter. Not even a 1 percent chance
So, I don't care if he's 20 or 27. He doesn't have certain traits and he can never have certain traits. And that goes for a lot of guys.

So is there any credence to this or is just message board what ifs?
I'm still praying we Dunn

It goes against the team Gentry would want. The team Demps would want and the one Ferry would want. So yes, it is a pointless convo IMO

I don't think trading for okafor is the right move and I know gentry and demps want run up tempo but I don't understand why we are trying to be the Warriors there the best at that style we need to be different so I wouldn't be against going big at all times and punish teams for going small

Think outside the box, there could be a three team trade involving Okafor, our pick, and a good sg/sf.
I'm just inclined to believe we won't trace it if Dunn Murray or hield is available though unless it's got a Jimmy Butler, Gordon Hayward etc

Punctuation is your friend.

What 3rd team would want Okafor and have something we'd want more than 6?
Lakers - Would they trade Randle for Okafor, and if so what could we flip Randle for, or do you just push AD to center in that situation?
Celtics - Avery Bradley and 16 or 16/23? As much as I'd hate to go Young Vet again, if you could get 2 firsts to go with it, I might not mind. 16 and 23 isn't terrible if you choose wisely. You can probably draft an NBA ready guy like Valentine or Prince and get a project future replacement at PG or C like Dejounte Murray or Zizic. Bradley/future starter/current rotation player > Buddy.
Boston and LA have been tied to Okafor interest before. Any other teams you guys can think of? I like that Boston trade if they give up both picks.

I would do that trade no doubt can you imagine Bradley and holiday with there perimeter defense

From what I have heard from two reputable people, the Celtics are bigger on the two bigs in this draft than Okafor. They would love to walk away with one of the guards (Dunn, Hield, Murray) and one of the bigs (Bender, Chriss)
So, I don't think a trade like that could happen, but a trade between the Celts and Pels is certainly possible. In fact, if you were to tell me the Pels trade the pick, I would bet on the Celtics being the partner over any of the other 28 teams. Followed closely by the Nuggets
