Why the Pelicans do it: Pairing Anthony Davis and Okafor gives them a powerful front court. It also allows them to shop Omer Asik for another potential backcourt player.

New Orleans isn't a perfect fit for Okafor -- I'm not sure there is one -- but this is the best the Sixers will do if they want to land another top pick.

Personally, I wouldn't do it. Maybe if we traded Asik instead.

I would only consider this on draft night depending on what is available at 6

I would do this in a heartbeat.

These days, Okafor has seen his name surface in trade rumors, he’s been on the receiving end of criticism, he’s rehabbing his right knee after undergoing surgery for a small meniscus tear and Philadelphia’s 10-72 record makes this by far the least successful basketball season of his life.

makes me nervous, de ja vu

Instead of starting a new thread

Ford also has Kris Dunn as the player who fits the Pels the best

Honestly, given thought, I'm not for this move. I'm not totally sold on Okafor, but that's not really why. frick Philly. Teams need to stop letting them kick the can down the road.

What were Okafor's defensive metrics last year?

Anybody know how he did at the combine? I've always looked at him as really unathletic for some reason.

Pass. Okafor was injured, had off the court issues, and put up good offensive numbers on a bad team (but was not really a defensive or rebounding presence).

Agreed. And even then, would probably only do it if Hield, Murray, and Dunn are all gone.

He didn't. I have no answer as to why, but he didn't participate.

That's interesting. I don't think he would've scored well.

Well unless you draft Dunn you aren't getting a defensive player. So I don't really think that's a knock when talking about acquiring okafor. It's not really fair to judge his D at this point, either

And he is very athletic for 7' 275. At Duke he was more back to the basket, but he's a different guy in an NBA offense

Okafor Coast to coast

Top picks usually don't attend.

Only way I'd do it. And it needs to be Asik, not Ajinca.

Asik is unrealistic.

My one non-negotiable is that this pick MUST be used to acquire a guy who finishes games 100% of the time. Against any team, against any matchup

Okafor doesn't fit that criteria IMO, so I would pass. Same would go for Brook Lopez

Again, if I am gonna use a big resource on a big man, he must do ALL of the following:

Guard the rim at an above avg level or better
Defend on the perimeter at above avg or better
Hit FT's at or above 70 percent
Be at least a mid range threat offensively

Dunn, I understand due to defensive potential. It will translate to the league regardless and be valuable

Convince me why I would take Hield and Murray over a 7' who just averaged 18 ppg as a 20 y/o.. I'm not siding either way, but I want to hear the case

Right now or in 2 years?

Okafor has the touch to cover the offensive part. I think he can be an above average rim protector, too. Guarding the perimeter may be tough but with the right personnel around him it could happen

That's a lot to ask, though. Not many big men check all of those boxes, so I'd take 3/4

Yea I mean this definitely needs to be looked into. The same case in which some of you make for Murray over BH (mainly bc of age) needs to be applied here as well. I agree with Gyno that he beasted as an 18 year old rookie which tends to mean he'll only get better.

I mean guys, he was a top player in high school, national champ, top 5 pick and a 7 footer who can score with his back to the basket and is just beginning his career!

I'm torn on this one as well but man to not have to worry about your 4 & 5 for a few years would be pretty nice.

I always think back to Drummond. The guy stunk in college. Very hyped coming out of high school but didn't do much at uconn. What a beast he is now. I'm not saying Okafor will be Drummond but man what if he continues to be a 20 10 guy, expands his range and develops better D? (All things that are very possible for an 18 year old).

I think I'd have to take it the trade.

I can see him being really similar to Lamarcus.
