King Ranch and I are going to go in 50/50 on the 4.5mil and we'll each keep one. filled out the interest form yesterday.
seriously, this is one of the greatest gunsmithing achievements in recent memory. an incredible fear of engineering, craftsmanship, and metallurgy. so many different things had to come together perfectly. dat barrel to bushing fit
dat crown

Prized meteor such as the Gibeon is sought out by collectors and traded by the gram. The scale and use of the material to this extent of making a high precision functional firearm has never been attempted before. Meteorite is hardly an optimum material for firearms, so numerous technical matters have been overcome to construct the pistols using advanced aerospace techniques to make the pistols fully functional.
quote:
Long before man discovered the metallurgical innovations that ushered in the Iron Age, iron weapons were forged, carved and shaped from crashed iron-meteorite. They were implements unlike anything available here on earth. Mankind’s innate desire for protection leads him to seek out the best in strength, workability, and longevity. Of this storied recounting of the past, a present has emerged and a future is guaranteed. Now, revealed to the world is a modern meteorite weapon – the Cabot Guns’ Big Bang Pistol Set.
quote:
Set on accomplishing the impossible, Cabot Guns set out to do something truly different in the creation of the Big Bang Pistol Set. Small parts and accessories have long been made from exotic and uncommon materials, but never before has an entire modern weapon been crafted from such a coveted medium. Even that we couldn’t settle for; so we built two, a matched left and right – serial numbers individualized to reflect the geographic earthly coordinates where the Gibeon meteor came to rest on our planet. The pistols are fully-functional – and resultant of their National Match barrels, accurate; verified both on the rest and in off-hand shooting. Leaving nothing to chance in terms of functionality, our engineers used electron beam technology to meticulously add bimetal support only to the frame/slide rails, hammer, guide rod and extractor of the Big Bang set. – and the pistol’s components, down to the barrel bushing and trigger – are 100% Gibeon meteorite.
quote:
In crafting the Big Bang Pistol Set, we wished to maintain as much out-of-this-world detail in our finished product as was possible. On close inspection, “voids” in the material itself are able to be discerned, oxidation of high-iron content areas gives a hint of the meteor’s age, and exposed “bark” from its outermost shell adorns numerous surface features of the pistols. Each are exact copies of the other, but both are entirely unique. Different finishing techniques highlight the diversity of the material from which we extracted these weapons. High polish flats on the grips, natural patterning on the slide and frame (acid etched to accentuate the supernatural texture of the meteors internal structure), and elsewhere intact outer-edges of the meteorite that survived the heat and violence of atmospheric entry – all come together to bring skyward-turned eyes back to earth, to gaze in breathless amazement.

I got two - one for the safe, and one to carry.

I bet they are heavy as...

$4.5 million is a lot for you fellas to spend on a gun?
Heck, I usually carry around that much on me.

I'll have to add the gibeon threaded barrel, but I'll take em both.

And I thought the gangsta gold one's were over the top.

I'd buy it, throw some punisher grips on it and flip it on Gunbroker for 5.5mil

Those are two of the most beautiful things I have ever seen.

The meteorite is ironite. So they are pretty heavy. It's like holding a hunk of iron as opposed to stainless or polymer. Very heavy I'm sure. They have acid etched the slide also which gives it a nice appeal.

Those are the Affliction shirts of the 1911 world.

What happened to KR anyway? I never see him post as much

You need to save your money and get back to my shop. You have enough 1911's

Says sold so I can't see a price. Is the 4.5 price point above accurate ?
That is absurd. They are gorgeous, extremely (though I imagine ridiculously heavy) and I'm sure will be treated as untouched artwork... But really, that's insane.

From pictures on Google, that looks like the natural pattern of that meteorite (Gibeon)..

I think they use the acid to being the pattern out of the metal, the same way it is used on damascus barrels.
