Took my daughter to see him yesterday. He was up and about, ignoring the onlookers for the most part. He is just a beautiful creature...pictures don't do him justice.

What kind of sick person would up vote a post about breaking the news that mike has cancer? I usually don't bother with up/down votes but damn!

Well he's had a better/ more cushy life than almost any other Tiger ever.

If they don't get another tiger then we don't go to the games. See how they deal with that!

Who is this "we" to whom you're referring? Speak for yourself.

Does Mary Bird Perkins routinely absorb the costs of cancer treatment for humans as well?

i know where you're going with this, and i agree but the state isn't going to pay for it in the midst of this budget crisis and it isn't like the tiger has a job or a 401k. they may figure he won't respond well to treatment and he only will get one or two trips there.

There are times when this happens. They also have significant philanthropic funds to assist needy/underinsured patients.
I've never heard of anyone being turned away due to financial reasons (or really any reasons if the patient was in need of radiation treatment).

if they didn't offer it, some other company would.
if by some miracle that didn't happen, I bet they could collect a hundred grand in donations from the public in what, a couple of days?

The next big question: when will Mike be treated?
According to Dr. Baker, the logistics are being worked out.
This weekend would be perfect, since MBP will be treating Mike after hours, and Mike doesn't need to be stressed by the crowds at Bayou Country Superfest.
Once Mike goes in for treatment, sadly or happily, we likely will know immediately the results. Mike may not survive another round of general anesthesia, or if he does not respond well to the radiation, he will no doubt be humanely euthanized.
But if he has only one or two months to live without treatment, he obviously needs to undergo radiation as soon as possible.

The public will likely not know until after the treatment has been administered. There is a real concern that this could easily turn into a circus (no pun intended) so the likelihood is that it will be done at night and the media will be notified afterwards.
