Went the other day for lunch. Plenty of folks with nothing more than slacks and a polo.

One guy got turned back in shorts. I did see them allow about a 10 year old girl in shorts.

Tons of tourists and none of them were suited up. I felt over dressed in a suit.

Thats because you were sitting with the rest of the tourists! Should have been upstairs in the garden room.

This tourist was up there in the garden room. Maybe I fooled people into thinking I was local.

Wear that suit. I would.

Gotta wear it with white suede bucks with the ox blood red sole. (and wear socks, for cryin' out loud)

No bow tie though.

I've always used Easter as a benchmark and then ending Labor Day.

And anyone that thinks they are gay has zero fashion sense and I'm sure think affliction shirts come from a fine haberdashery. My grandfather was a farmer and he wore seersucker overalls for christs sake.

I have three suits, two of my own and one I inherited from my father which was bought circa 1948 on Canal Street. He didn't remember the store but all of mine are Joseph Haspel. I wear the jacket a lot with khakis and brown Allen Edmonds and it is a classic look. Also one I have I wash and wear not dry clean.

Enjoy it at Commanders or wherever you go during the season. A nice evening bbq, a good gin and tonic and my seersucker blazer and I'm very comfortable and life is good.

And for those that don't know Haspel was made in New Orleans and are still American made. So I guess we have a lot of afflicted communist in this thread.

That is one thing, but there is not a lamer look than seer sucker with bow tie and white bucks to me. Like R2R said, I always picture some sweaty Ignatius Reilly-esque figure or some fop who looks like their mother dressed them. Pretty much everyone I know who wears that outfit regularly falls into one of the two.

You need new friends Reg.

I don't do the bow tie and rarely wear a tie with them. My head is too big for a bow tie-I would look like a party ballon. But the best one I do have is the wash and wear. When I was younger I wore it with jeans but I'm too old for that now.

Maybe not gay, but it is pretentious as all get out. If you are going to wear a suit, then wear a suit. If you want to play dress up, then go ahead and wear your seersucker.

To me, seersucker is just a costume for guys who wan't to look like they lived in 1920's Savannah.

ETA: I acknowledge the want for seersucker for the heavy sweaters, FWIW. And my opinions are based on the fact that i think that all seersuckers are white with pale blue pin stripes and a goofy bowtie.

I understand the practicality of it. My gripe is i think of that picture from the zoo event at audobon zoo, and all of those in seersuckers and it just screams pretention to me.

I'm well aware that seersucker breathes well. I just find they look goofy. There are only a few people that can pull it off, and they are usually heavier guys.

FWIW, i'm a relatively thin guy that doesn't sweat, so the need for seersucker for personal use, is not there. That and if i had my preference, i'd rather hang out in flip flops, shorts, and a t-shirt than get dressed up to go eat. However, the wife probably would frown down upon that when we go out to eat.
