Maybe not gay, but it is pretentious as all get out. If you are going to wear a suit, then wear a suit. If you want to play dress up, then go ahead and wear your seersucker.
To me, seersucker is just a costume for guys who wan't to look like they lived in 1920's Savannah.
Wow. I've never thought that ever. It simply reminds me of Spring and Summer in Louisiana. I like the look on guys. Always have and have never thought it was feminine or pretentious.

I've never been any place that I "felt overdressed." I also don't spend a lot of time evaluating men's clothes and sunglasses.
Pussification of 'murica.

Well i'm a guy. And like i said, it looks fine on some people. Others it just looks pretentious.
In the end, it doesn't give me any heartburn, just stating my preference on the suit.
However, i'm sure if someone gave me one and i wore it, i would change my tune, but i just don't care for pastel suits. (and yes, i'm ignorant of the fact that seersucker comes in a variety of colors and shades)

I'm guessing you dont wear suits very often or daily?
A seersucker, pincord, or white linen suit has a half life of about 18 months before they start falling apart, get stained, etc... Considering there is a time of year to wear them (Easter - Labor Day traditionally), they are much more comfortable in oppressive heat than a wool suit, and there is a tradition of wearing them that has continued before and after 1920, its no wonder most folks wear them as often as they can.
And the photos from Zoo to Do, Id imagine show more white linen, than seersucker.

Right. Official attire for ZTD is black tie or white linen, but there are occasional arse clowns that can't read and wear seersucker.

I don't, thus my honest ignorance.

Oh i know they are lightweight, and i understand the practicality of them.
I'm just stating my own preconceived (and mostly incorrect) notions based on observations. I have friends that wear seersucker. I've even met Martini in real life, and he is a really good dude. I'm just stating my ill-conceived assumptions based on other people that i either know or don't care about, that wear them often.
In reality, seersucker is worn by most probably due to the fact of comfort, heat, and practicality. And some people probably do look good in seersucker. I'm also certain there is a sect of frat boys (and i was in a fraternity) that wear them for a show of status/class and they look goofy and/or pretentious.
I acknowledge that my generalization of the suit in whole is more than likely wrong. And i'm sure if someone gave me one and i wore it, i'd probably like it and will be a huge hypocrite. Even as i type this i'm showing my own hypocrisy on the matter.
FWIW, i have negative opinions of bowties as well. I told my wife the other day that Bow ties should only be worn in a tuxedo.
I like classic styles of fashion i guess, thus my opinions. Not necessarily southern classic.
ETA: I was born and raised in Louisiana and i'm as southern of a person as the next native louisianian, i just don't like when people lay on the Southern culture so thick that it comes off as fake. Genuine southern culture is what i like. Emphatic southern grinds my gears.

Not everyone should wear a bow tie. They work on some, not on others, and when it's wrong it's painfully obvious.

Poor people apparently do not like seersucker.

Its a suit dude, pretentious people are pretentious in their birthday suit.

You see, i like the look of white linen. I like solid colors personally, especially if they aren't white. A nice tan or khaki linen suite i could see myself wearing.

I am aware. Hell, my B-in-law has a seersucker, and is one of the nicest guy i've ever known. Let's just leave it as seersucker isn't my taste in style. I think i've overgeneralized and subsequently walked back said generalizations enough in this thread.

There we go...
If it's a good looking suit, wear it.

Give me white linen > seersucker any day.

And someone who doesn't know about linen or cotton suits that are half-lined.
Maybe I've just lived up North too long, but I just think that seersucker suits have moved into the costume realm.

How do people not realize this? Seersucker and linen are functional fabrics for south louisiana. They may be pretentious and ridicilous in other climates, but are extremely practical in our absurdly humid subtropical climate.
I would rather people think I look pretentious than be sweating like a pig in some wool or polyster suit walking around downtown New Orleans in the summer. I don't however where them with bowties or bucks.

Seersuckers are worn in hot/humid locations worldwide.

Only wear it if you're hunting vampires.
