I wish they would dump you in the woods with no internet service.

99 miles out is way the hell out there. Much farther from land than deep water horizon.

Shell spokeswoman Kimberly Windon, in a statement late today, said a helicopter saw an oil sheen near the Glider subsea tieback system at Shell's Brutus platform shortly before 8 a.m.

If it is a sheen, probably not more. Fresh oil spreads out rapidly on water and forms a very thin surface. When reporting a spill, the term sheen refers to fresh oil of a thickness of 0.000001 inches.
Below is a link if anyone is interested in how to make these calculation

Color is the most important factor in measuring the amount of discharge. It could be a silver sheen, which wouldn't be bad at all, a rainbow sheen which would be a little worse, or a brown sheen which would be kinda bad.

more important than volume?

Sheen was 13 miles long and 2 miles wide
crashed navy jet full of fuel does that....

I believe the color helps indicate how thick the sheen is, which helps estimate the volume.

Lotsa those guys underestimate initially. Like BP did.

When you come up with a better way to estimate how much oil comes out of a pipe 2,000 feet underwater, we'll start using that. Until then we will stick to the Bonn Agreement.

Absolutely. A light silver sheen could be miles long and not be that much oil. If it's brown, it's going to be a fairly significant amount

I hope a Bay hand is responsible. Brutus likes to act like they follow rules but really they cut corners. Shows up safety wise there. Shell is pretty good about safety and following the book for the most part. But I know they cut corners hope those people get exposed.

Subsea jumper off Brutus, eroded near an elbow....... Making sand?
USCG estimates agreed with Shell's estimates.
