Full report here
quote:
Workers urinate and defecate while standing on the line; they wear diapers to work; they restrict intake of liquids and fluids to dangerous degrees; they endure pain and discomfort while they worry about their health and job security. And they are in danger of serious health problems.
quote:
The situation strikes women particularly hard. They face biological realities such as menstruation, pregnancy, and higher vulnerability to infections; and they struggle to maintain their dignity and privacy when requesting breaks.

In one survey of 266 workers in Alabama conducted by the Southern Poverty Law Center, nearly 80 percent said they are not allowed to take bathroom breaks when needed.2 A recent survey in Minnesota revealed that 86 percent of workers interviewed said they get fewer than two bathroom breaks in a week.3 The problem is so large, and of such vital importance to workers, that poultry workers at the Case Farms plant in Morganton, NC recently launched a campaign with Western North Carolina Workers’ Center solely around the issue, demanding the company provide them with bathroom breaks when needed.

These companies are breaking laws surrounding basic workers' rights. Why have the workers been too chicken to do something about it?

EWS - Workers at one Arkansas poultry plant were denied restroom breaks to the point some "had to wear Pampers," according to an explosive new report on working conditions in the chicken processing industry.
"I had to wear Pampers," a worker identified as Dolores stated in a damning a report from Oxfam America. "I and many, many others had to wear Pampers."

Still better than being on an iPhone assembly line.

Do these people not realize that they are free to take their labor elsewhere?
It's unthinkable that employers can get away with this in competitive markets.

It's really fricking ridiculous how corporations treat human beings. This is why Bernie Sanders is getting forty-something percent of the Dem Primary vote. I'm not a Bernie guy, but if you were wondering why a lot of people are... This. This is why.

As much as I like the affordability of 1.99 chicken breasts, I cringe to think of working in a chicken processing plant. Hard to imagine that kind of stuff going on here in the USA.

When this news breaks it will cause a flood of negative PR.

But all of those plants looks so clean and on the uppity-up on Dirty Jobs.

Chicken plants smell worse than any other plant IMO. Yes, even paper mills.
