A couple of hints. This guy was misidentified by the other 5 guys in the group. I have been catching snakes since I was 6 or so, and in those 43 or so years, this is the first one of these I've ever seen. Oh, and it was an a-hole. Not even diamondback water snakes have come after me like this sob.

That's an Appalachian Mountain Snow Snake molting to it's summer color pattern from the white, winter snow pattern. (Actually, that is one beautiful snake in the pic. Never seen one like that before.)

FWIW, I knew what it was before I confirmed with hubby. (But only 'cause he's found and photographed a few in the last year. )
