Has there ever been a worse time to be a cop?

All eyes are on every action they take, and if they screw up it's blown all over social media and the news. Why would anyone choose this profession?

Has there ever been a worse time for citizens who have the misfortune of interacting with cops?

Worse as in can't kill people with impunity anymore?

Ever been on facebook? Cops are worshipped more/held in the same regard as soldiers.
Great time to be a cop, if you ask me.

Things have always been this way but now there are means to expose them.

The prohibition era must have sucked to be a cop

They are in a better profession than most in aspects of screw-ups. If you are I screw up bad we may lose our jobs, companies or what have you. Generally when a cop screws up, he has people around him to cover said screw up. That is what angers the people. The "thin blue line" back the badge no matter what.

Honestly, if I were a cop I would just quit. What's the point in being a cop if you can't jam up someone for looking at you wrong? Or driving a nicer car than they should? Or because they're hanging out with your ex wife? I tell ya, you can't even plant a drop gun these days without Internal Affairs "investigating" like you're the criminal that probably had some drugs on him.

Ill say this much about it. The added negative exposure ruins the trust issue needed for a smooth encounter. 10 years ago it was expected that certain people automatically thought a cop was dirty or out to get them. Now you have middle and upper class housewives you've never met before, suspicious of everything you do because Whoopie on The View told her to be. Cops are constantly told not to treat every person like a criminal but now people are told to assume every cop is a criminal. That's ok though. I'll continue to prove to people I come into contact with that we aren't all out to take their money or shoot their dog.

They probably don't have many other options. Or they just like to feel powerful. Some probably even do it for altruistic motives.

1971 251 killed, 143 by gunshots
2015 128 killed, 39 by gunshots
With way more cops, far fewer deaths.

Personally, I think the problem that a lot of normal people have with the police is that they unnecessarily escalate situations that result in excessive force, and have completely eliminated the due process and "let's all be reasonable" type of attitude. It's tactical holsters, tasers, and battle helmets, and IMHO it's uncalled for.
I'm not saying that it's not warranted in some cases. But the second you don't comply with whatever they tell you to do, exactly as they say to do it, you're eating dirt with electrified prongs sticking out your back. If you're lucky.
Let me just point out that this hasn't happened to me. If/when the cops talk to me, which is basically never, it's "Yes sir, no sir, thank you".
