New Orleans Saints Picks:

1st Round: DT - Sheldon Rankins (Louisville)
In the Cardinals' three-man front, Rankins presents issues for both interior and outside blockers. His only start as a sophomore was in the team's bowl game, but he came on strong as a junior in the team's first year in the ACC (13.5 tackles for loss, eight sacks, two interceptions). ACC coaches elevated him from a third-team all-conference pick to second team this year (13 tackles for loss, six sacks) as he continued to terrorize ballcarriers. Rankins' versatility as a potential starting five-technique or three-technique makes him a fit in any system.

2nd Round: WR - Michael Thomas (Ohio state)
Thomas is a Los Angeles, Calif. native who played three seasons at Ohio State and closed out his college career in Columbus appearing in 39 games and recording 113 receptions for 1,602 yards (14.2 avg.) with 18 touchdowns.
In 2015, Thomas who graduated in December with a degree in sport industry, was a third team All-Big Ten selection as he started all 13 games and led the team with 56 catches for 781 yards with nine touchdowns, which was tied for second in the conference.
In 2014, Thomas was the leading receiver for the College Football Playoff national champions with 54 catches for 799 yards with nine touchdowns, playing in all 15 games with 14 starts. In the team’s Sugar Bowl win vs. Alabama in the playoffs, Thomas snared a crucial touchdown with 12 seconds to play in the first half in the win vs. no. 1 Alabama.
Thomas is the nephew of former NFL star Keyshawn Johnson, who was the first overall pick in the 1996 overall draft and also played for Saints Head Coach Sean Payton in Dallas from 2004-05.

2nd Round: DB - Vonn Bell (Ohio state) (from NE)
Bell played three seasons for the Buckeyes from 2013-15 and played in 42 career games, recording 176 tackles, nine interceptions, 24 passes defensed and two fumble recoveries.
In 2015, he was a consensus first-team All-American, starting all 13 games at safety and recording 65 tackles, two interceptions, one brought back for a touchdown, 11 passes defensed and one fumble recovery for the nation’s sixth ranked pass defense and second-ranked scoring defense.
In 2014, Bell, started 14 of 15 games played at safety and was an honorable mention All-Big Ten selection for the National College Football playoff national champions, ranking second on the club with 92 tackles, adding six interceptions, 12 passes defensed and one fumble recovery.

3rd Round: #78 (traded to NE)
4th Round: #112 (traded to NE)

4th Round: #120 DT - David Onyemata (Uman) (from Wash)

Intriguing, ascending prospect who garnered the attention of several NFL teams at his pro day in Winnipeg, Canada, and Onyemata did not disappoint."
"Big, powerful frame. Has some violence and jolt in his punch. Big hands with good arm length. Has potential to be snap-winner at point of attack with NFL coaching."
"Tremendously raw and inexperienced. Has played the game for just four years and may not be ready to contribute on a regular basis for at least a couple of years."
"Onyemata has the potential to become an eventual NFL starter on the interior.

5th Round #152 (traded to Wash)

7th Round: #237 RB: Daniel Lasco (Cal)

Coming off of a team MVP and honorable mention All-Pac-12 campaign in 2014 (1,115 rush yards, 12 touchdowns; 33-356 receiving), Lasco looked for a big senior year to finish off his career. Unfortunately, he couldn't stay healthy in 2015, playing in nine games due to hip and ankle injuries (three starts; 65-331 rushing, three TD; 4-24 receiving). Scouts already wondered if Lasco would stay healthy with a 6-1, 205-pound build, but he's not contact-shy. In fact, he led the team with 12 special teams tackles as a true freshman in addition to carrying the ball six times for 109 and a score.

Would love trading back w/ the Jets, getting Wilkerson, and with their pick, maybe taking Doctson? Then a D-tackle in 2d round, and OG in 3rd.

Am I the only one who thinks Wentz looks like a red headed, bearded Andy Samberg?

Mates does anybody else feel like they've outgrown the draft? This used to be one of my favourite days/nights of the year and now I'm just kinda "meh". Going to listen to a podcast about politics while I passively track the draft here on the phone

I feel like Rankins is a little bit of a reach. I think we could have traded down and still picked him up, but because I'm fairly certain he wouldn't have made it to the 2nd round, I can't hate on this pick. It seems safe and addresses a position of need.

Sheldon Rankins was a great selection. It is time to fap! Go ahead and melt all you dissenters. Too bad.
