I liked the Whiskey thread but I also wouldn't mind seeing some things scattered on the board again. It got kind of tiresome scanning through that damn thing.

I found this forum while googling for info on Calandro's store selects and figured I had to join up and say hello. You guys drink well!

I've lived in Texas for the past 18 years but grew up in BR. My bourbon buying strategy is this: Visit family in BR, make a trip to Calandro's, buy a couple of whatever their current store pick is. Works every time, those guys know how to pick 'em.

Need advice/suggestion.

A coworker is retiring, and we are going to get him a bottle of bourbon. His wife told me that he is trying to get into bourbons but has struggled liking what he's tried.

What I am looking for is something that is extremely smooth with minimal bite/burn. Something that will ease him into it so he can expand in the future.

I was told Colonel Taylor fits this category. Any of you can confirm this? Is there something you would recommend as superior to this which accomplishes those goals?

TIA

Just starting to get into the finer spirits the past year or so. I really like aromatic and complex whiskeys. I'm on a college budget and need some recommendations.

Guys, I'm planning to put a few bottles up on the trading block soon. I've got a pretty good handle on the value of two of the bottles, but I have no clue on the third one. I've got a bottle of The Classic 90 Old Charter (12 year). I see people selling bottles of the 8 and 10 year all the time but never the 12. Any idea what this could move for?

So I'm going to be in Texas next week. What whiskeys (anything but scotch, really) are recommended that are distributed in Texas that I would not be able to find in Louisiana? TIA.
