Sabrina the Teenage Witch. Her aunts or whatever would have been killed centuries ago. Plus, Salem the cat has some kind of non-denominational accent. If he was truly from Massachusettes, he would use the word "wicked" more, especially after living with people involved in the "dark arts"

There is a young girl who is a warm, funny and bright child. Her father walked out on her family, then her mother abandoned her at a Chicago shopping center, leaving her alone with her dog. Afterwards, she discovered a vacant apartment in a local building.
The building is managed by photographer who is an elderly widower who is something of a grouch. The girl quickly became friends with a young girl who lived upstairs in the old man's building with her grandmother, who worked as an RN at the local Cook County Hospital. The old building owner discovers the newly-orphaned girl and her dog in the empty apartment across from his.
The relationship between the two blossoms, despite red tape from social workers. Later on, The old man legally adopts her.
