Sad roadkill sighting

Saw a bald eagle that must have been struck by a vehicle on hwy 90 in Amelia. Called wildlife and fisheries to report it. Sad to see, but I guess they are making a comeback?

They are all over the place down there. I see at least one every time I'm at the camp in Pigeon

They get high on freedom, and it's all downhill from there.

Happens to owls all the time. Kinda surprised an Eagle would swoop down like that over a road.

I know a guy who hit a buzzard with his truck and totaled it.

Its not unusual for that to happen. It was probably heading to a feast on some other roadkill in the vicinity.

They are very plentiful around make Verret.

Almost hit one on where I10 goes over Blind River. It drop whatever it had in it's beak and dove to pick it up again. Missed it by no more than foot, glad I did.

My buddy is a Biologist Supervisor for LDWF and he says he gets calls about this all the time. They get hit trying to snatch roadkill. He says they are pretty but they sure are dumb. I watched one come close to getting hit a couple weeks ago. Narrowly missed the top of the van in front of me.

was probably eating roadkill himself

I drove by one a while back that appeared to be eating something down in the ditch. I passed by doing about 65 and the eagle ignored me and carried on with its business. Hard to believe they've already become that comfortable around vehicle traffic.

I hunted an area in N La for years and had camera's out, we never saw anything but 110-120's at the max.
One morning, on the way home, I find a car on the side of the highway within 1/2 mile of my lease had hit a 9 pt with 6" bases. The buck would score in the 160's etc etc
At 10:00 am on a warm sunny day

I see them regularly on hwy 1 between Thibodaux and Belle Rose. They are always getting some road kill. It gives you a different perspective when you see one on the ground. They are humongous

I've had to come to nearly a complete stop because one of those dumb bastards wouldn't get off a dead pig

One flew into the front quarter panel of my little ranger back when I was a teenager. It made a pretty good dent in a curved area that would be hard to dent.
As for bald eagles and roadkill, they're pretty much glorified vultures. Golden eagles are way cooler, imo.
