We crunched some numbers and thought about what we wanted to do and decided against the meal plan for this first trip. we figured it would come out in favor of us in a few years with kids, but just for the two of us, i don't think so. we have a table reservations for each night, but are in agreement that we probably cancel a couple just to improve our flexibility and secondarily the budget.

We did port Orleans riverside a couple years ago and it was something like $160/n. Nice room, great property, spread out and pretty relaxing. Also check to see if they are offering a promotion for free dining plans with your rooms, they do that during slower times

Magic Kingdom has changed very little. It's great for little kids.

People that say this aren't doing Disney right.

Epcot is cool but there aren't many rides.

Drinking around the world.

Hollywood Studios is revamping some rides.

This park is pretty much useless right now but they are adding a Star Wars land and Toy Story land here. In the next few years it will be Disney's best park.

Animal Kingdom is Disney's best park IMO.

How can you say this when rides are apparently important to you? AK's ride selection is terrible. It's a great walking park though.

I have a family member who is a Disney Booking Specialist. Whether you are DVC, staying on property, staying off property, splitting time time with universal, etc. She (no pics) can help. She will book your tickets, room, dining reservations, photopass, character meet and greets, fastpasses etc, so that when you get there all you need is your magic band.
I can speak from experience (my family is dvc and we average 2-3 trips a year) this service costs absolutely nothing. Disney has already factored in a booking fee into all of their prices. You might as well get what you are paying for! She is an expert on everything Disney.

If your schedule is flexible, she can also advise on when to go, what parks are most crowded at which times of day etc.

Disney World Trip Advice

Stay on the grounds. Always.

Boardwalk.
Yacht and Beach Club.
Wilderness Lodge.

Eat a Turkey Leg.

Get a fast pass for Toy Story as soon as you enter Hollywood Studios.

Eat at the restaurant in Canada.

Drink a beer at the Rose and Crown.

That time of year you might get the free dining plan if you stay on property. Google Disney free dining plan to check which dates qualify.

It's been there.

The only steak I like better on grounds is Shula's in Swan and Dolphin.

When's the last time you've been?

That's all done 60 days in advance now, or you can do it on your phone through the app

Are you driving or flying?

Stay in Hotels off the property, and drive to Downtown Disney to catch the shuttles to and from the parks. Don't eat in the parks on a regular basis, and you will save money.

Hell just drive it's only 13 hours from here. I've done it before a couple of times.

So you stay AND eat off property? What time left do you have to actually be in the parks?

Staying on property will give you a FAR better experience than traveling to and from the parks every day will. And this is coming from someone who has done Disney trips over a dozen times, in every way imaginable.

Yeah driving isn't terrible from B.R. we do it a lot.. Normally leave a day early drive to Lake City and stay..Get up next morning for a pretty short drive in.

I booked through smallworldvacations

This is the info I have from my summary

quote:

February 4 - 9, 2016
Disney's Port Orleans Resort - French Quarter
Standard Room

2 Adults
2 Children – ages 11 and 5
Magic Your Way Package plus Dining
5-day Magic Your Way Tickets with Park Hopper (No Water Parks)
Disney's Magical Express

Travel Insurance - Declined

Total: $3712.38

We ended up adding a day to our tickets which costs very little and we stayed one extra night with a room only reservation which added another 197. Total was closer to 4000 I guess.

Max 4K will get you basically nothing special. You'll have to stay off property which means you have to pay for transportation to and from the parks.

Then you are going to Disney like a complete retard. None of this is true at all. We are going with 2 kids in june, staying at Animal kingdom Lodge with 6 nights and 5 day single park tickets for less than 4K. We will go a bit over that with food, gas and such but a nice, on property trip is easily doable in that budget.

Oh, we stayed 7 at a suite in Coronado. It was more.

Our family (4 persons) stayed there in November 2014. 6 nights with the meal plan (free) was @ $2600. Hated the place. I didn't see a difference between it and All-Star sports.

You aren't going there to hang out in the room. Hell, we were in the room only to sleep.
