My husband and I are planning on checking out some different festivals this year. One unique thing I love about the Louisiana festivals is how each one seems to have a local vendor that has a special item. Would love to hear different festival favorites.

Mine - Pork Steak sandwich from the church booth at the Rice Festival
Nothing fancy but something I always associate with the Rice Festival.

I've always enjoyed the Strawberry Festival, which is, coincidentally, this weekend. I don't really have a favorite item, although I always leave gorged. It's hard to screw up a strawberry.

Kind of unfair to compare the Jazz Fest to smaller-scale local festivals, but I adore Prejean's pheasant gumbo at Jazz Fest.

If you want something different and some really good food.

I recommend Allon Monger Festival ( that's Cajun for "Lets Eat") St Jules Catholic Church Belle Rose, LA this Sunday.

Very small Festival and Sunday only, but plenty of great food served in small portions so you get to try everything.

Great food, good music and good people, just don't expect the giant crowd.

JAzz fest food is good but everything about jazz fest has just become way to pricey and the crowds are too big...JAZZFEST WAS MUCH BETTER IN ITS EARLIER YEARS...ITS OUT GROWN THE SITE ITS ON NOW...

Besides the mud this last year, nothing beats Hogs For the Cause for me.

FQF is still great on Thursday and Friday morning.

try the chicken sandwich from the same booth. Whole leg quarter between two pieces of Evangeline maid

Also the germanfest in Roberts cove has some good food and good beer

I thought I had tried everything from them but never the chicken! Will definitely try it come October.
I love the look on people's faces who have never eaten the pork steak sandwich. When they open it up and it is just hanging off the sides, the look on their face is priceless
We usually take one home and make 3 - 4 sandwiches from one.
That bar-b-que is always the first thing I smell walking up to Rice Festival. When I smell that I know it is Rice Festival and football time

At Jazz Fest is it a pork chop or pork steak? Just curious as the ones at Rice Festival are a pork steak slapped between two slices of bread, it just hangs off the sides of the bread. You really feel like a caveman (or woman) eating one. But oh, so good

Larose French Food Festival, Shrimp Boulette's.

Best ever though was Lagniappe On The Bayou..... POP ROUGE ICE CREAM AND BLACKBERRY DUMPLINS.

Jazz Fest has the best food, hands down. I didn't see it the last year I went, but the crabmeat po'boy was outstanding.

Old people annoy me. LOL

I will second the Prejeans gumbo at Jazzfest. There is too much out there to try and make suggestions.

FYI - Not sure if you ever make it to SW LA but I just noticed Don's in Scott has several types of Prejean's Gumbo. I did not see the pheasant but two or three kinds of Prejean's Gumbo.
