Remember that if he stays, this LSU team will likely go about 4-14 in conference play the next couple of years
You have nothing to base this on.

exactly correct. You can't view those stats in a vacuum. The correct standard is whether the coach gets the most out of his team, based on the talent on the roster.
When a coach brings in good talent, as Jones has done, the bar is raised for wins. So I'd argue that Jones' winning percentage is not good and he's underachieved, relative to the talent we've had. And his winning % was awful this year, again relative to our talent.
And here's the proof in the pudding:
In Johnny's first year his Top 8 players he had were probably:
JOB III
Hickey
Carmouche
Coleman
Stringer
Morgan
Del Piero
Ludwig
He went 9-9 in the SEC with that squad.
This year his Top 9 players were:
Simmons
Hornsby
Victor
Blakeney
Quarterman
Gray
Patterson
Sampson
Epps
Yet managed to go just 2 games better at 11-7 in the SEC. Not to mention lost 2 more games OVERALL than that first team he had.
The results this season were simply put nothing short of mindbogglingly poor. Especially the continual blowouts to end the season.

I think it's about right depending on who all leaves besides Simmons.
I dont see how we're that bad if Quarterman and Blakeney both return, but 4-14, 5-13 sounds about right if we lost both of them.

So you just ignore the current state of SEC basketball? The fact that Brady took over a program that prompted such TD.com user names as Draconian Sanctions? Brady played with 5 players and the rest walk-ons for most of his tenure here.
Do you ignore that LSU basketball when Brown took over and the sheer number of games under his tenure?
You also fail to point out the number and quality of games.
While Brown was playing Duke,Georgetown,UNLV year in and year out in shorter seasons. Jones is losing to Charleston in longer seasons.
What were the RPIs of the respective teams?

Dale Brown coached 102 games in his first 4 seasons
Johnny had 131 in his first four seasons
Go look through the schedule and show me the CoC's, McNeese, USA, Kennesaw St., Oral Roberts, Gardner Webb, etc.
It is almost all SEC, which some games were not counted towards conference record, and a few independents.

LSU Basketball is in the throes of a public relations nightmare.
How can coach Jones recruit promising High School players after this year's team could not make the NCAA tournament ?
If you are a high school McDonald's All-American, who would you rather learn from: John Calipari , Bill Self, Roy Williams , or Johnny Jones ?
I have a difficult time believing that Chris Jackson, Shaquille O'Neal, Pete Maravich , or Steph Curry are walking through those PMAC doors any time soon. Not after this season.
Fan support is close to becoming non-Existent for basketball and morale is low. The fans want something to get excited about. Johnny O'Bryant, and Ben Simmons did not win any games in the Dance.
Time to get serious and stop the political machine hires. Either put up the money or expect 3-4k fans for each home game.

Okay, yall have all made really good points and proved those stats are meaningless.
I'm ready to move on from Johnny.

Johnny has never won a NCAA tournament game. Ever

All this proved to me is that mediocrity is the benchmark for LSU basketball; that LSU has a mediocre basketball program and that a lot of you don't really expect it to be anything more.

Jones had kind of a mediocre SEC record this year, but it was his non-conference record that was remarkably bad. By focusing on the SEC you gave him a free pass.

JJ is an awful halfcourt coach. His 2 foul rule is infantile.
Yeah and with opposing coaches knowing his rule, it was easy to go at Simmons and Victor and get them in foul trouble early with how refs call games these days.
I actually think Jones is getting worse as a coach. At first, it seemed like we'd be an uptempo team that pressed a good bit and caused turnovers. Now we are just slow and passive. CJJ did decent his first few years, but the SEC is not good right now and he is struggling. The SEC used to be more difficult in basketball, so I think the other LSU coaches had it tougher (though after his initial talent was gone, Trent was just bad under any circumstance).
