one WR I wish we could/would add is Jermaine Kearse from the Seahawks.

don't imagine he'd demand a lot of coin.

that guy made wicked catches for the Seahawks, big play kind of guy IMO.

a little under the radar like Golden Tate was there. Probably not as good as him but Kearse is a solid role guy I think.

If you had to pick coming into today

Fleener 5/36 or Green 4/20, which is it?

He couldn't produce with the passing game in Indy with his Stanford QB teammate? Why would he play better here?

Fleener because I'm always going to go with the more proven guy (within a reasonable age gap).

I would have taken Watson and what he got over Green despite the age gap.

Hell the only reason I wouldn't just trade all my draft picks if I was a GM is because of how cheap rookie contracts are.

Only he did produce? 50+ catches are year the last three years.

Plus Brees > Luck.

but forreal, if I'm not mistaken his guaranteed money is like at least 1/4 the cost as well. Just as capable a receiver, and arguably a better blocker.

Indy for one. We definitely didn't just pull the numbers out of our arse. With a weak TE class teams were likely fighting over the few they had.

I'm pretty sure Indy was out (especially once they re-signed Dwayne Allen).

What concerns me is that The Colts (and Chudzinski) decided to go with Allen who has missed 21 games the last 3 years OVER Fleener.

Bill Polian gave it a B.
Although looking back through his grades he gave the Saints a 79 for acquiring Drew Brees.

Any grade given before the player even plays for his new team is guesswork at best and a monkey flinging his shite at grades on the wall at worst.

I wish the Saints would spend just a little more on an actual legit #1 receiver and take their chances at tight end in the draft again or in free agency but not as much money spent.

I am with you there.

I am surprised they are giving Fleener this much money.

This is the entire point of the signing. The FA WR class and TE draft class is weakAF so why not grab a proven 6'6" 4.5 mismatch who can become top 5 at his position?

It's either take that or blow your wad on a Marvin Jones, Sanu or Rishard Matthews who are a dime a dozen.

2.4M off the cap this year, 18M guarantee...its peanuts compared to the return we should get if he stays healthy

COBY fleener, max Unger and Stephonr Anthony.............or Jimmy Graham

Idk, over 5 years, $36 million is not much at all. On top of that, Indy was a mess with play calling, lack of defense and no offensive line. Next, let's not forget what Drew Brees does and that's make something out of nothing. Brandin Cooks, Willie Snead, Kyle Prater (I guess as of now lol) and Fleener? I'll take that.

what concerns me is they rather keep a going to be 36 year old antonio gates @6mil a year for 2 more years than pay a very young green @4mil a year

The Fleener contract is a little more than I thought it would be however it was a need that could only be properly addressed in FA. Glad to have him. Now if we can keep our RFA's and sign a WR we will be primed for the draft. A FA guard at this point is just lagniappe.

His cap hit is like 2 mil this year .Not sure what everyone is freaking out about. We needed an established presence at TE big time.

If you look at what we had with Hill and Hooman it was two guys with 9 years experience and only 87 catches between them, with neither having more than 16 catches in a year.

So that's less than 10 catches a year combined.
