Focus Group Convened To Understand Why Blacks & Latinos Do Not Visit Parks

Per NPR.
To find out why African Americans and Latinos largely do not visit national or state parks or enjoy nature (there is a massive lack of presence and visits), a focus group was convened. The group watched a short film of a Latino man enjoying a walk in a national park, taking in the sights, vistas, and general natural wonder. The top responses by the group:
"Who's he hiding out from?"
"Where's his family?"
"What's he doing out there?"
"What's wrong with him?"
One of the prime reasons concluded for the disconnect was that national parks are simply rejecting and uninviting. The overwhelming presence of white males in the park service is a detraction. Outreach programs are being tried as a way of reaching more African Americans and Latinos in an effort to bring them into the park service.

I'm not sure if this is supposed to be a race baiting thread, about baseball parks, dog parks, or meant for the OT or poli board.

I'm sure people born in Africa and living in the US visit parks.
Blacks don't.
Blacks don't.

Damn.... our last great refuge.

Its not meant to be race baiting at all. I think it is important that minority groups feel a connection to the outdoors and natural wonders.

Well tell them to get their asses outside and enjoy it.

I see black folks at the parks all the time where I am. Npr needs to stop trying to force shite. Non-story is a non-story

I have no knowledge other than my own visual experience. I have often visited parks and I don't remember ever seeing a single African American. That is just my experience, however. Obviously you have a different one.

When it's paid for by others.

I've seen blacks at local, state and national parks. Is this a study where they are looking for 50% of the park visitors to be black when they only make up 13% of the population?

I don't eat food with olives in it because I don't like olives. Maybe those categories of people just don't like the outdoors.
I know a lot of illegals that enjoy hunting, and would if they could. Old black men enjoy fishing for trash fish. There's two right there. Most in those groups grew up in the city, so being outdoors is just not fun to them. No reason for a study or panel to be assembled over something so simple

This sounds like a setup for a Dave Chapelle skit.

Another top response: "Where's his lawnmower?"

Damn Nature, you're scary?

Parks are full of privilege

In my hometown blacks are about the only ones who go to the parks. The whites go to the woods
