yeah, ben simmons.

How was anthony davis ready his first year if Ben Simmons isnt?
Obviously Davis is a different type of player, but as far as being physically ready, Ben is more ready than any other freshman that is about to join him in the draft. And more physically ready than Davis was his first year.

AD was brought along slowly while he adjusted to the physicality of the game.

I am not fricking saying Ben shouldn't go pro, I'm just saying part of what Charles said is true, but that's the case for most NBA lottery picks.

Ben still has a lot to improve on but he can improve in the NBA and be getting paid for it.

I doubt any 18/19 year old is actually ready for the NBA, the NBA is full of grown arse men.

Would you rather make 100 million on your one and only shoe contract, or wait a year to develop more and have a better chance at a longer NBA career and have 3 or 4 100 million contracts?

I don't understand this logic. If he was going to be a late first round pick, then sure. But Simmons is going first in the draft. It's stupid to say that he could develop if he stayed another year in college, but somehow he can't develop if he goes to the NBA? No one in their right mind would pass up an endorsement deal worth 100 million and being the first pick in the NBA draft so that they can "develop" another year at the college level.

You act like the NBA, NFL, and MLB don't develop players over the course of their careers.

No, BilJ. Simmons needs to stay so he can develop more in college. Limited practice times mandated by the NCAA and shitty coaching are going to prepare him for the next level.

But what is it that he said that you think is true? The fact that ben isnt physically ready or the fact that he should stay one more year?

It's entirely possible that Simmons will develop into the next Kevin Durant (or better),

Not really similar players other than that they are both tall

and just as possible that he will be the next Tyrus Thomas (or worse),

Come on. And they also aren't similar.

But that is the reason he's so sought after. It's hard to compare him to any player.

I mean he's been pretty wrong about a bunch of big things lately.

Suggesting someone should pass up $100 million to stay in college is moronic, but Charles wants a rule in place. He's giving generic statements about this.

They've had a terrific season. But I don't like jump-shooting teams. I don't think you can make enough jumpers to win four series in a row. I've said that for 25 years, not just now. I think you physically manhandle them inside.

LSU fan logic: Johnny Jones is the worst coach in the history of basketball Ben Simmons should come back and develop another year under him.

Barkley has good basketball knowledge, but he is still an idiot. He says outlandish things that make no sense. He uses his opinion too much to justify himself which is how a female argues.

With that said, Chuck is and will always be better than Stephon A Smith and Skip Bayless. Those 2 guys are unbearable to watch.

people railing on Barkley, read the article for some context.

quote:

"If you go to college for one year, that's really just six months. You're not going to get a lot better or stronger as a player in six months. But if we keep you in college for two years, you're going to get a lot better as a player and a lot stronger physically. There's a huge difference between six months and two years."

He makes a good point.

The fact that he wasn't good enough to overcome the shortcomings of this team and make the tourney has to concern some people.
Is Cal more talanted than LSU outside of Simmons/Blakeney with Brown/Rabb? Blakeney might not have been that great to start the season, but he's been playing like a pro prospect as of lately.
Cal was barely a .500 team last year and only lost 1 guy of somewhat importance. Now they are a 4 or 5 seed.
They've got one guy outside of Brown/Rabb that has a chance at the pros, and his chances are less than that of Quarterman's if you go buy nba prospect rankings.
Cal's 9 losses have all come against tourney teams.

He's got insane stats, yet will be the only top 3 pick to not ever play in the tourney in the last 20+ years. If you really are that good, how could you not propel you're team enough to make the tourney, when everyone before you was able to do it with their team, teams like Colorado, ASU, Cal, Illinois, KState, USC, Georgia Tech....
If Derrick Favors is good enough to make GaTech a tourney team for 1 year, and Chauncey Billups, with no help, can make Colorado a tourney team after 32 years of missing the tourney, then Simmons should be able to get LSU to the dance.

Ben Simmons is like an avatar or a player class on a video game.

He's 6'10, maybe 6'11, and goes about 240 to 250 lbs. He has the coordination and body control of a regular 6'4 player. He has functional ball-handling skills right now, so you know he can already dribble without turning the ball over. He's agile.

I'm pretty sure that there are plenty of people who are better than him right now, but none of these guys have anywhere near the ceiling he does. Blakeney is someone who comes to mind; he'd probably kill him in HORSE and a ball-skills exhibition, but he's 6-7 inches shorter.

some of you guys hammered me for making this statement. I agree with Charles

You cannot be an NBA player when you cannot shoot the ball from more than 3 feet from the goal

Yes I know the NBA teams are better equipped to teach him however the maturity issue may be better learned at the college level.

Mission out on the Wooden award because he is too lazy to attend class and study goes straight to immaturity.

Barkley's right and he's wrong.

Simmons isn't ready for the NBA, but he should still go to the NBA.

No reason to stay in college when you're going to be the #1 overall pick.
