On February 1, 2016, authors Preston and Child confirmed that producer Gale Anne Hurd would be heading a television adaptation of the novels Relic and Cabinet of Curiosities. The adaptation, simply titled Pendergast, will air on Spike TV. The first season will focus on "Pendergast investigating a present-day crime mimicking a century-old mystery — that links to his own family's dark past.

Would you be adverse to graphic novels?

mistborn trilogy is decent, followed by the Wax and wayne series set in the same world several hundred years after the events of mistborn
Also the Kingkiller chronicles are good, but only 2 of the three books are out right now
the third book is supposed to be out this year assuming the author doesnt catch George R.R. Martin Disease

I recommend all Greg Iles books, especially the Penn Cage series. Iles is from Natchez.

You might like the Red Rising trilogy by Pierce Brown. It's described as Game of Thrones meets Hunger Games. The third book "Mornig Star" just came out last month.

Go back and read the early Tom Clancy stuff starting with The Hunt for Red October. Takes me back to being a kid when the Soviet Union was evil.

Brian Lumley's "Necroscope" series
Jonathan Maberry's "Dead of Night" series. There have only been 2 entries so far with the third set to release next month.

I came across a trilogy yesterday that is intriguing and will pick it up next. It's the first law series by joe Abercrombie that is set in a Anglo Saxon /Sci fi epic world. Or if you enjoy military based books there is the delta series

If you're into historical fiction try Ken Follett's two books Pillars of the Earth and World without End. Also his more recent history trilogy Fall of Giants through the Edge of Eternity are great.

If you can get past the name, Harry Turtledove has a sweeping alternate history series that begins with the South winning the Civil War and seceding and extending past the present to the earth being invaded and conquered by aliens. It will keep you busy for a long, long time.

I second the Mistborn series, and also recommend The Gentleman Bastard by series by Scott Lynch as well.

If you like alternate history, one of my favorites is the series written by Harry Turtledove. One series (my favorite) starts with the south winning the Civil War and having USA split into two countries. It traces the history from that time through World Wars and beyond. Very intriguing brain candy.
The other series involves world history and aliens. A bit out there but still fun.

The Wheel Of Time series by Robert Jordan.
Unlike Game Of Thrones, you won't have to wait for the author to finish it and hope that it happens before he dies. Because it's already finished... despite the fact that Jordan already died before completing it.

Umberto Eco The Prague cemetery
The name of the rose
The Foucault pendulum
Javier Sierra The secret supper
All well grounded in history with conspiracies thrown in. Albigensians, Leonardo, the inquisition, Dreyfus affair and more.

Few suggestions similar to Game of Thrones:
The Blade Itself (First Law Trilogy) - Joe Abercrombie - clever, gruesome, graphic, great characters. And unlike GoT it has an ending already.
Demon Cycle - Peter Brett - entertaining series all-around. More on the PG / young adult side of the spectrum but still very dark.
Name of the Wind - Patrick Rothfuss - addictive! But beware, Rothfuss looks to be just as bad as George RR at leaving his fans waiting. Seems to be in no rush to move the series along despite ending the last book in an emotional slump.
And then, ANYTHING by Brandon Sanderson is genius. This guy is incredibly talented with plot twists and humor. And best of all he's a fast writer and doesn't take 8 f-ing years to put out the next book of a series!

I second the Wheel of Time series. The last few books (which Jordan didn't write) were pretty bad but you almost feel like you have to read them by the time you get to them.
I've also enjoyed a couple of James Patterson series. The Private and Michael Bennet books are quite entertaining.
