It just isn't sustainable for employers that actually pay the majority of the costs.

There is a difference between this, which is happening as many companies all over (as premiums rise, companies are not increasing their contributions, so more and more of the premium is paid by the employee) and the OP, where it appears the employer actually cut back on the amount they are spending.

Part of the problem with our current health care insurance model is that for many people, they don't know the trust cost of health insurance, because they only pay a portion of it (and that portion they pay is with before-tax dollars).

I have Aetna and had a similar extreme rate hike. Went with the high deductible family plan and it has been a nightmare. Can't wait for my wife to go back to work as a teacher and take advantage of state insurance. This is a nightmare for young families on company assisted insurance plans.

What's wrong with the HDHP? I just enrolled in mine and it seems like it'll work great for me.

Anybody remember that old commercial from early 80's,

"Aetna I'm glad I met ya"!

Plenty are not so glad now.

I'm on BCBSoT high deductible. I pay ~$100/ month with a deductible of 4800 and max out of pocket of 8500. This is an 80/20 plan.

With my old plan I was paying $70/ month and only had a deductible of 3500 and it was 100/0. obamacare sucks so bad.

Even my liberal buddy who supported BO has buyers remorse as his insurance has rocketed up. The ACA really has worked

I know an agent you can talk to...you actually met him. Mr. Manny in Houma. Could you imagine?

On a serious note, our company has over 50 employees so we have been grandfathered in so far. That will change this May. In a nutshell, our company has to pay health insurance premiums for every employee here per the new law. (At least offer it) BUT, what will change is before this cluster frick of ACA, our company would pay for 1/2 of our FAMILY premium, but now they are not obligated to pay any premiums for my wife and kids since they have to pay for all employees full premiums. (Which I understand) So yeah, I get my insurance paid for in full now instead of paying half, but now I have to come out of pocket for my wife and kids entire premiums. Of course I won't qualify for any government subsidies, cause heaven forbid I actually bust my arse and make some decent money. I told my boss that he will have to give me a raise to make up for any additional out of pocket premiums I have to pay for my family and he said we can try to hash that out. Screw this law....I really don't understand how families will be able to absorb these extra premiums unless I am missing something.

Why am I not surprised

I am putting my resume out at the moment. Tomorrow I will call and make it known that this will not work, from there I will see what is offered and hope for the best.

Extending the coverage period from 22 to 26 for children accounts for almost none of the increase in rates and a grain of sand on the beach for the overall premium rates.

Global, based out of Houston.

Salmon, I am hearing of it picking up. The only thing is that no matter how busy it gets, they will never regroup and go back to helping us out on the insurance.

Are you married? kids? I have to pay $4k deductible, then another $2750 co-pay before 100% is covered. I also have to pay the same premium I did last year for the low deductible... That plan was abandoned by the company. I've already surpassed $6750 in the first month. I'm a single income earner.

-$169 premium per paycheck
-$4000 deductible
-$2750 80/20 copay
-company contributes $1250

Last year I paid $169 premium and $1500 deductible.

ACA didn't cause the exploding healthcare costs associated with end of life care. While it may helped make the rising premiums worse, rising premiums were always coming.
