Who have you guys used in the past for your lab pups? Is there one that is considered the best?

Ace's Retrievers in Kiln, MS. I own a dog from him, and I know several others that do as well. He produces some great dogs all around.

I hear good things about Milners Duckhill and Wildrose.
I've got an unregistered dog, that did not come from a breeder, that I'm currently training. His drive is high and he's learning fast.

Duckhill and Wild rose both breed british labs. Just know that before you start to look them up.

We have a y-farms lab. He's a fantastic dog.

What caliber of lab are you looking for? What kind of goals if any do you have for him/her. House dog? Hunting Dog? Hunt Test or Field trial? What breeder you go to and how much you pay are largely based off of what you want to get out of your dog.

My dogs don't compete only hunt.
I breed with friends hunting dogs that I know the dog and that it is a good hunter not a circus animal.

Clay Dossett at Prarie Plains British Labs has excellent dogs for hunting with the temperament to hold a couch down, too. He's honest and a fine trainer.

british labs.
What is the difference?

British are supposed to be a little smaller and be calmer overall. I think 'supposed to be' is the key phrase, I think you can have hyper and calm dogs from either line. I got my 12 week old fox red british lab from Huntsfield in Mississippi. So far, I would say she is pretty laid back. She is a puppy and plays hard, but she is pretty well mannered and not at all out of control.

Like DSD said, in general terms, the British are smaller as mature dogs (males under 70 and females @60 pounds), they are less hyper, and tend to be easy going. They generally don't work as fast, though my red fox male is lightening out of the box, but he likes to celebrate the retrieve on the way in. Ha.
I've had both types...I'll never, ever feed an American again if I have a choice in the matter.

My Old dog. Awesome buddy. This was him "fired up". Ha.
This is him working at full speed...15 years young.

What are some of the prices for these pups?
Posted on 3/3/16 at 9:37 am to ItFliesItDies
Huntsfield is $1200.
I think Wild Rose is $1600, I could be wrong though. It's been a second since I have looked there.

Dossett will likely be $1000.00 and up.

The best lab I ever had was from my fraternity brother's dad. He was through his first rounds of field trials at 6mos old, and was well on his way to being something special. He busted through the gate one night at my in-laws with her lab, and they both got hit on the hwy.
I paid $450 for him. His bloodline was solid, but nothing over special. That dog slept in the bed and lived in the house. He was my best friend and shadow before I got married. When he passed, I got a GSP, bc I couldn't even look a a lab for a long time
IMHO It's more about the owner and his relationship with the dog than it is the bloodline.
Goodluck

My friend has a British lab and there's nothing special about him. I don't like the way their faces look. Much prefer my American
