re: How much do you pay for health insurance?

My wife didn't have health insurance before we married because she couldn't afford it. Now that we're married, we have to pay a penalty for the time she was without insurance, because she couldn't afford it.

My reply is getting downvoted.
Sorry for not paying much.

I pay $365/month and I downgraded from a gold plan to a silver plan because my obamacare gold plan was going to be well north of $415/month.
And my primary doctor now no longer accepts my obamacare insurance (thanks Obama). But my insurance does a good job on prescription drugs. Last year I spent about $7,000 out of pocket for health care (drugs, insurance, dental, doctor visits)and that was without anything major happening. I'll probably spend that again this year.

$700 a month. $4000 family deductible, then 80/20. I believe $9600 total out of pocket. $25 co pay. Premiums increased 41% this year. Complete poop.

I'm on my own and my wife and two kids are on hers.
Me: $0 premiums, $1500 deductible, $3000 out of pocket, hsa plan (no co-pays, 10% coinsurance).
Family: $80/month, $4000 deductible, $6600 out of pocket, hsa plan (no copay, no coinsurance).
We are very fortunate with insurance.

Longtime lurker who just felt the need to join to comment in this thread. The amount you are going to pay for services until your deductible is met will be the negotiated contract rate the insurance company has made with the provider. These amounts can widely vary but information is hard to come by until you receive your Explanation of Benefits which will show the contract adjustment. I fervently believe there needs to be an easy way for consumers to compare these rates because this is what really determines out of pocket costs with high deductible plans!

~325/month. Family. No deductible. Low Copays. And pretty much everything is covered 100%. Only downfall is forced Home Delivery on pharmaceuticals. Although it's not much more or less expensive than using a pharmacy.

Yeah, I'm thinking that's his portion of a company-paid plan.

my company pays a little over $900 per month. The $2000 per person and $4000 per family isn't deductible i didn't say that right. That is out of pocket max. deductible is $300 each.

In college, my wife and I pay $230/month with a tax credit. Without it, it'd be $510. I feel like shite taking the subsidy, but I don't have a choice at the moment. I suppose it makes it somewhat better I'll definitely be paying it back + some in the near future.

$370 per month, family of 3.
$35 copays for office visits
$3k family deductible
Out of Pocket Max is $25K
Plan is through Farm Bureau and is subject to tax penalty, but even after paying the penalty still comes out to be over $150 cheaper per month than the cheapest Obamacare plan offered.
Hoping to get a new job soon with better health coverage so I can cancel this plan as well

Why on gods green earth do you have to pay a penalty?? You have fing coverage.

I'm on the Medicaid..... Just kidding.
Posted on 2/15/16 at 8:46 pm to tiger91
My guess is that the plan he has does not meet the ACA requirements to be a qualified plan. He still gets coverage at a reasonable price, but has to pay a penalty because the plan doesn't check all the boxes ACA requires.
