I think my tuition was $45 a semester. My dad helped me out.

I was pre tops also, my parents helped some with some savings, I went to cheaper school at the time (la tech), I cleaned pools six days a week in the summer, and waited tables at a shitty restaurant three to five days a week during my semesters. I paid all my own living and vehicle expenses.
I left college debt free and with a nice healthy savings for a kid and moved to Texas for a career opportunities.
The whole education system screwed up when they started promising college to every kid.
However, I agree that tuition cost has soared beyond mangable levels. It's ridiculous, that even with all my hard work, today I would be leaving college with debt.

Yup. I finished LSU right when TOPS became a thing, so I didn't get to benefit from that.
Paid my loan off in 10 years and glad it's done.
Must point out that back then, LSU was under $4k a year, in-state, for tuition. My total loan was around 20k or so. Not too terrible.

Nope. TOPS/Parents paid for undergrad. I paid my grad school as I went.
Same goes for my wife.

Schollies come easy at the HBCU. I paid for my Master's out of pocket.

I took out loans but I also had the GI Bill from the Army National Guard.

No. I'm super grateful that my parents paid for four years of college. Did the same for our oldest although it wasn't a huge amount as he had TOPS and a scholarship that is still continuing into his grad school .. Also at this point has an assistantship so our contributions are less and along the lines of car insurance and cell phone.
Our next child will graduate in May and will likely live at home and attend ULL with a scholarship that is looking awesome right now. Not half of the tuition but at this point it's entirely way better than nothing.

Only about $7k for my last few semesters. Worked my way through for the most part, dad paid some, had a small academic grant and paid off the loan in about 2 years.

I did not. I'm very blessed and fortunate

Grad school only. Will be paid off in 7 years.
