When I lived in Hammond we mainly did Mariners, Lee's, Tommy's, and Brady's.... think that was about anyone wanted to do before walking to the bars.

But the burger patty itself was well over an inch thick, very well done, and zero seasoning whatsoever. It tasted just like plain cooked ground beef.
thats how it is in hammond, too...at least to my taste.
overcooked and bland
other people like it though, so more for them

The one in Hammond has had it's ups and downs as well. It has really taken one of the owners to stay in the kitchen to make sure the food is up to snuff.
Jalapeno Ranch burger is incredible. They used to have really great sliders, but got rid of them for some reason or another.

I no longer order burgers unless I can get them cooked to order.

I expected a cheese plate of some sort... some type of sausage/brat.... the food almost seems too upscale for a bar.
So is it more of a restaurant or more of a bar?

As far as I can remember, Mariner's Inn sold almost nothing except giant burgers/cheeseburgers and overstuffed baked potatoes the entire time I was at SLU. There may have been other things on the menu, but almost every table had burgers and baked potatoes on them. On special occasions, we might get a Fogcutter or other specialty drink, but usually it was just a couple of domestic beers.
I ate there about 6 months ago and their menu has greatly expanded from my 1980's days. The other stuff was good, but the burgers aren't the same. Maybe it's old age or nostalgia, but the burgers aren't as good. That being said, there's still plenty of good things to eat there. They've just evolved with the times.
Short story made long, I don't know why a place with good burgers and good beer can't make it on W.Thomas St. I don't see the parking as any problem, much less a huge problem. If it's overpriced, that may be a bigger issue. Hammond is still a college town.

Only thing I can think is too many other places with the same menu it seems... The beer should help this place stand out over your number burger bar like Brady's or Mariners.

this is becoming (thankfully) more of a "dining in hammond" thread...so lets keep in going. this is more press than hammond has ever gotten here
when we first moved there, we hated mariners, just had a bad 1st experience. now that i know how to navigate the service and menu, we love it. that "pizza portabella" thing is addictive. either at the inside bar or on the patio is the way the eat there, because service can be a little "casual"
as far as other long-time places, i really like lee's but my wife doesnt so we dont go there much. the tommys out by trey yuen was our favorite, but we do hit tommys on thomas a bunch. la carretta is definitely in the rotation, as is tacos and beer

Kickin Chicken at Mariners is legit.
Downtown Hammond is vastly underrated.

Here is my take on Downtown Hammond
The Kickin Chicken (you can also get the chicken dipped in buffalo sauce) and the Black and Bleu Burger are my go to items at Mariners. The crab and artichoke soup is also pretty tasty.
Lee's has some pretty good diner food and we stop in maybe once a month.
Brady's has good food but nothing stands out (hamburgers are really goood), I mostly go there to drink.
Tope La often gets overlooked and is probably the best restaurant in Hammond. Go on Tuesday nights for lunch menu night.
Probably my favorite place is Tommy's, the voodoo pizza is legit. If I want to eat cheap I get an order of buffalo bread sticks or mozzarella bread sticks with half priced beer on Sunday or Wednesday's.
Kirin and Cate St are both decent sushi joints, Cate St has a few other menu options but both have equal quality on sushi.
I do not like Your Mom's, I have been twice and both times me and my wife did not like it.
Did I miss anything?

The Steakhouse is really good.
Tacos and Beer has pretty good tacos. Closer to authentic than La Carreta, and only $2 on Tuesdays.
Berry Patch salads are good, if you don't mind a long wait time.
I love Brady's Chicken Parm and cheese fries.
But tGOAT food is the Crescent chicken strips at 2 AM.

Yeah wasn't sure if it was the same owner/type of restaurant since I only see a FB page.

Mariners - Kickin chicken is great, Really enjoy the Kickin Chicken Quesadilla. Never have gotten a bad meal there, always enjoy the service. Crazy thing though, they have the best Tuna Steak in Hammond.
Bradys - Never cared for the service, everything always seems to take a long time. However, Fajita Chicken Salad with jacmel dressing (yum) and the chicken parm sandwich.
Lee's - Really good wraps, nice dinner atmosphere. Place has really turned around since Russell Tallo and his son took over.
Tope La - very under rated that gets over looked a lot. Cajun pork tenderloin with pepper jelly.
Tommy's - love the voodoo pizza, don't go too often though.
Kirin and Cate Street - they are ok for Hibachi, sushi, and fried stuff.
Your Mom's - Jalapeño Ranch burger. Another one though that honestly takes too long for service.
Taco's and Beer - pretty good, $1 taco on Tuesdays.
Steak House - Steak by the ounce and is really great.
LaCaretta - Chicken Fajitas and Margaritas
Rotollos - Decent Pizza nice beer selection.
Berry Patch - Really not a fan of the service or the food to be honest.
Iron Horse - Had it once, enjoyed the boneless wings. Need to get better on their service time, but it is expected as it just opened.
Salad Station - basically salad by the ounce.

This might be more fun for you Hammond folks. The rest of us liked it how it was.

So they are competing w/ the Crescent (next door) and Mariner's (across the street). Good luck...
