He had a place on the east side of I-35 for a couple of years. It closed years ago.
I believe got out of the business, re-opened with his sister then had a falling out with her and opened his own place in Austin recently. Major soap opera guy....but cooks some mean BBQ
Crazy how John's real old smoker became Franklin. Aaron nabbed it up once John went off the deep end with the bottle and god knows what else.

Finally went there a while back after seeing multiple people talk about it. Talk about overrated. The fried pork rib was phenomenal and the mac n cheese was great. But the brisket was too fatty and holy shite the jalapeno sausage was awful. Like cooked jalapenos and burned ground beef shoved into a casing. Really really dry. Mike Anderson's >>>>>> pecan lodge.

Yeah on one of Franklins shows where he builds the pit and talks about his he talks about getting that pit and how bad of shape it was and all the work he had to put in it. Doesn't name Mueller but anyone who follows them knew it was a dig at the guy.
And here is an old Texas Monthly about them. I've posted it here before but still a good read.

Old Hickory House in Tucker, Ga. Last store of the small family chain still open. Best Brunswick stew anywhere.
That place in Pearland is nothing to sneeze at.
Auburn Rib Shack, closed eons ago, downtown Atlanta.
Great place on Saint Simons Island. Wish I could remember the name, was on a Diners, Drive ins and Dives.
My back yard when the Green Egg gods are smiling.

Maybe so. I have found that everything else, other than the gigantic pancakes, is the epitome of mediocre.

BBQ is so subjective, but mine are
Pecan Lodge- Dallas
Stanley's- Tyler, TX
Salt Lick- original and only the original. People who say it sucks because they've been to the chain ones are missing out.
Speaking of Dallas, if anyone is in the area, I work by a place that's only been open a year called Ten50 BBQ in Richardson off 75
It's the central Texas model of walking by the pit and just putting stuff on wax paper. They have improved every time I've been and think they have gotten pretty damn good. The owner is the guy who founded chilis. I read an article on him and he said he basically always was fascinated with the original central Texas joints like Snows, coopers, hard 8, Etc. He went and found two pitmasters and paid them while they toured basically every top BBQ joint in Texas and surrounding areas for a year.
He told them to take notes and talk to the legend pitmasters and basically he wanted something similar. Like I said, it took a few months to season the pits and get everything right, but I went the other day and damn, it was good.

Ain't no way ... that place was so bad they'll never get a second shot with me.
If you're in Tucker, you're better off going to Matthew's Cafeteria.
