He's making more than he was at LSU but I'd imagine it was more than just money. I guess between Les nearly being fired he figured now is a good opportunity for a HC job even if it's nowhere.
Frank is a good coach and works hard. Really good guy too. He deserved it. I hope he challenges himself and is successful there. Maybe in the future he'll come back to LSU at some point. It was inevitable he was leaving at some point we all knew it. I just hope he doesn't take anyone on this staff with him because it would hurt us.
I don't think recruiting will be hit this year but it certainly will take a huge hit in the future.

He's leaving. It's the smart move for him. He's a talented coach. Give him a few years he'll work his way into the bigger bucks at a smaller D1 school. Sacrifices.

No state income taxes in Texas but the exorbitant property taxes more than offset any savings.

And that is with no state taxes plus cheaper real estate in general.
I lived in Texas bud....property taxes well make up for the lack of state taxes....especially for the larger homes like Frank will be residing in.

What accomplishments or records does Wilson need to acheive at San Antonia to be comsidered for HC in the power five? What would he need to be considered at a school like LSU?

Why on Earth didn't he just take the Tulane job???
Because Tulane found a better coach and never offered Frank

Best of luck to Frank. What a great area to live! Hope he gets a staff with experience. HC is a whole new ballgame. So many jobs that you must depend on the staff. It is no easy move. Most smaller programs have no money for the asst coaches.Another very real problem is money to recruit. Having a backer with a plane is the way to make it work. Will be pulling for him.

20% pay raise plus no state income tax is not a bad deal. Add to that that it's likely a step toward bigger things, it's not a bad move for him. I wish him the best.

only if you own it...and it really doesn't make that much of a difference...its basically a wash with the no state income tax.

This is a significant opportunity for Frank. USTA is an up and coming program with a school enrollment of 28000. I would put this opportunity on par with the early days of UCF and USF. Good success here could allow Frank to skip the mid-majors when he moves to his next hc gig.

You know UT, TCU, Faggies, and Baylor are all craping their pants with Franks recruiting..literally...in their back yards now

And he can use those connections to get some of the 3 stars that most P5 schools don't go after.

This is not necessarily accurate when you're making $750,000. He'd have to get a ridiculous house to make it a wash.

If you're making high six figures, you can live like a baller anywhere that's not named San Francisco or midtown Manhattan. As others have said, it's not about money. He wants to be a HC and has to start somewhere. UTSA is a brand new program, but at least there's some potential. Better to go into a situation with upside than take over a longtime dumpster fire.

How do you figure....I own a home in College station and pay 8000 in taxes for the home. However.....the money I make at a louisiana clip of 6% on big salary is a way better deal for not paying it.
saving 6% of 750k>property taxes.....He is saving roughly 45000 dollars.....

We should all be happy for Frank Wilson, and his first HC opportunity.
All assistant coaches have aspirations to become HC in their careers.
He will get more money to become their HC, and it was more about the opportunity becoming a HC at a program that wanted him.

I'm extremely happy for him. Hate to see him go but not many deserve an opportunity as much as he does. Hope he soars and builds on his already solid career.
