Salzburg

Salzburg is cool but I think overrated. It isn't a can't miss place.

Prague is the most underrated city in Europe. It looks like it is stuck in 1935, everything is cheap and has a ton to do.

Prague. I was just there last summer and it's just about impossible to have a bad time. Beautiful city, cheap food and drink, and a lot of other tourists looking to have fun. Its almost like Vegas with how many stag and hen parties you'll see walking around.

I lived in Salzburg for a while and did a weekend in Prague. If it were me I would go to Salzburg because of my connection to the city.

However, I recommend Prague over Salzburg for someone (especially American) for a vacation layover. Salzburg is a nice city with cool things to do nearby (Bertchesgarten, the salt mines, the Alps, Mozart/Sound of Music, etc.) but Prague has a better night life and has some cool things to see and do. And Prague is cheap as hell.

From Vienna I can either head to Salzburg en route to fly out of Munich or head to Prague and fly out of there.

So, are you spending any time in Munich earlier on in the trip? If not, I'd go there over Prague, but I'd go to Prague over Salzburg for sure.

Nope. If I went to Salzburg, I'd leave from there in the evening, stay in Munich for the night and fly out mid-morning.
