I've got most of my trip planned out already but basically have 2-3 days remaining after leaving Vienna. From Vienna I can either head to Salzburg en route to fly out of Munich or head to Prague and fly out of there.

Thoughts on either?

Never been to Salzburg but Prague is my favorite city in all of Europe. And I live in Europe and travel around to quite a few of the big cities. What do you like?

Good food. Architecture. Maybe some nice day hikes.

I wouldn't go to Europe right now. Apparently it's Muslim rape season

I've never heard a bad thing about Prague.

My wife lived there for 6 months and loved it. Booze is(or was) cheap there.

I would rather have spent more time around Salzburg than Vienna. If you've seen Vienna, Prague isn't all that much different in the grand scheme of things. Salzburg at least has the Alps right there. It's great to go hiking. You hike for an hour or two, stop at a hut and grab a couple beers and sausage, then hike some more, then stop for more beer and sausage, then hike some more.

Salzburg and the surrounding country is beautiful, but if forced to choose I do Prague. Cool city.

Praha for sure.

Salzburg is nice but you'll have spent time in Wein already and gotten a feel for Austria, the Czech Republic is different and Prague is wonderful.

It's a shame you can't do both.

I've been to Salzburg and it is absolutely beautiful.

Whichever one you don't visit, do on another trip.

Everything up to Vienna is set because I'm tagging along on the trip with some family.

I'm starting in the Black Forest, then to Zurich for a day, and over to Vienna for 2 days.

Not sure if that helps in your decision.

Like others have said, you can't go wrong either way. Though I would say that Prague is a uniquely interesting city, not to knock Vienna.

Id go with Prague. However, Budapest is also close to Vienna and is a great city too.
What is in for the rest of your trip?

I'd actually do Budapest and you will have seen both Capitals of the Austro-Hungarian empire.

I love Budapest. Brief trip from Vienna too, not tough to do at all.

Visited Prague Sept of 2103.

Was a really awesome city and wasn't destroyed much during the world wars so still has a great old world feel to it.

Budapest is out because I can't get the flights to work based on the miles.

We hit Budapest last Spring and is one of our favorite European cities (after Barcelona).
Very underrated city!

Where in the black forest? What time of year?
I live less than hour from the northern part of the black forest and if the time of year is right, I would consider heading to the German wine valley for a day trip.

Near Freiburg. I believe we're doing a day trip to a winery.

Freiburg?
Beautiful area. I visited it in October. Get a fast car and drive the B500 through the forest/hills.
