Not trolling. Just opening up thread to see who he is or what songs he sings. Just because your 7 year old knows his songs means nothing. It's what they are forced to listen to by their parents in the car.

May he RIP though. Always hate when someone dies from cancer

Gotta love the trash that comes out of the woodwork to celebrate their supreme ignorance every time a great dies.

It's like saying Charles Dickens wasn't a great author because you never heard of any of his books, when in reality you just can't read.

At 13, my knowledge of David Bowie consisted of the song Fame, and the vague idea that he was a really odd theatrical English fellow in makeup and costume . At 14 I stumbled across The Changes One album, and was just blown away. Oh man, I was nearly obsessed with Bowie after that.

This one hurts. Thank you David Bowie, for blowing my little mind and enriching my life and now the lives of my children. RIP.

Tony Visconti, the producer who worked with Bowie to complete his final album, has released a statement saying it was deliberately created and timed as a "parting gift" for his fans.

In a statement on his Facebook page, he said: "He always did what he wanted to do. And he wanted to do it his way and he wanted to do it the best way.

"His death was no different from his life - a work of Art.

"He made Blackstar for us, his parting gift.

"I knew for a year this was the way it would be. I wasn't, however, prepared for it.

It is one hell of a catalog to dive into. It started with "Rebel Rebel" and snowballed from there with me. He went through so many phases that you will just become lost in it (in a good way).

Thanks for everything. RIP.

Bowie wrote ALL THE YOUNG DUDES for Mott The Hoople. Here's a great piece of Rock and Roll history:

quote:

Regarded as one of glam rock's anthems, the song originated after Bowie came into contact with Mott the Hoople's bassist Peter Watts and learned that the band was ready to split due to continued lack of commercial success. When Mott rejected his first offer of a composition, "Suffragette City" (from The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars), Bowie wrote "All the Young Dudes" in short order specially for them, allegedly sitting cross-legged on the floor of a room in Regent Street, London, in front of the band's lead singer, Ian Hunter.

That's a great story. How on Earth do you listen to David Bowie play "Suffragette City" and go "Naaaaaah. You can keep that one."

In 1972 "All The Young Dudes" was more likely to be a radio hit -- #1 in the UK and even made the US top 40.

Agreed. It's much better than Sufragette City.

"All The Young Dudes" is a great song. I agree there. But I dunno. "Suffragette City" was my favorite song of of Ziggy Stardust for the longest time.

Listening to Mick Ronson wail on Moonage Daydream. Thinking about both kind of brings a tear to your eye.
