Agreed. It's much better than Sufragette City
It wasn't a comment on quality. ATYD is less raucous and slower tempo, which at the time was more appealing to AM Top 40.

Rock n' Roll Suicide is my favorite album finale and Ziggy Stardust is my favorite concept album. That sound he gets on the album is just phenomenal.

Soul Love kicks in after 5 Years with this laid back funky beat. I remember the first time I heard that I didnt think it could get better, then he hits you with Moonage Daydream and Starman. That beat, cadence and style on Starman made me thinks "this is a bad arse white boy".

I could go on about Hunky Dory and Low , but he also brought Lou Reed back from the dead with Transformer. What a legacy.

Also, his post-9/11 cover of Simon and Garfunkle's America is amazing.

I have dressed as david bowie three times for halloween, you can say I obsessed. I don't listen to much bowie anymore, really haven't since mid 90s. But I will probably wax nostaglic on this.

First time I got high was to ziggy stardust.

Last photo of Bowie taken by his wife on his birthday.

Hard to believe this was just three days ago.

One of the great things about Bowie... No matter what type of music you were into, he was universally accepted as great!

Very few artists transcend the boundaries people place on genres of music...

I have never really listened to David Bowie. Where should I start? From the beginning or maybe Greatest Hits?

A greatest hits sample would be a nice survey to start.

But then hit the essential albums: Space Oddity, Hunky Dory, the world changing Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars, Aladdin Sane, Diamond Dogs, Young Americans, Station to Station, Heroes, Scary Monsters, Let's Dance (captured and commanded the '80's), Earthling, Hours, The Next Day . . . and I haven't really listened to Blackstar yet. I only left a few out, but I'm sure I'll receive some criticism.

Lou Reed was great and very influential. To say he was "more important" than Bowie is silly.

Thanks to this thread, I've discovered that I like Bowie a lot more than I thought I would. I always liked some of his big hits, like Changes, Under Pressure, and Space Oddity, but I never bothered to listen to any of his albums. I'm currently into Space Oddity and Ziggy Stardust, and they are both awesome! Thanks MB!
