Texas police dept tries to calm people about new open-carry gun law

Starting Friday, properly licensed Texans will be allowed to carry handguns openly in the Lone Star State, and Texas law enforcement agencies are preparing for some misunderstandings. Seeking to avert a flood of 911 calls from people surprised to see handguns in restaurants and stores and unable to tell the "bad" guys from the "good," the Round Rock Police Department released this public-service announcement: LINK
The PSA is a good idea, and there's some sound advice here — if a person with a handgun is "acting reckless" or waving said gun around, you should call 911, stat — but a few notes. First, the grandfatherly holster-wearing white gentleman is buying cheap red wine at a convenience store, which actually is a little suspicious. Second, Round Rock is an affluent suburb of Austin and the home of Dell — it would be surprising to hear such a thick Texas accent anywhere in the town. Finally, Round Rock is 10 percent black, 29 percent Latino, 5 percent Asian, and 13.5 percent foreign-born, according to Census data; by not noting the elephant in the room — brown and black people will also be allowed to open-carry, too — the Round Rock police department all but ensures that come Jan. 1, its 911 operators will be very busy fielding calls from concerned citizens.

I love the sheer horror on the moms face at the sight of the gun. It's really sad the the general public isn't educated enough on firearms to realize they don't suddenly animate and start blasting off rounds.

So is this more race-baiting or just another example of Moon Moon journalism?

Is that kid slow or just a poor actor?

Some folks, mainly reporters, act like this is some big deal. Open carry has been legal in many states, including Louisiana, for decades with no permit needed, but you rarely see anyone doing it.
Allowing Texans with permits to open carry, when most of them will not choose to do so, is going to be a big non-event.
I'm sure there will be a few attention whores who will strap on and go to the local McDonalds or wherever the TV cameras are for the first week or so, then it will settle down to nothing.

Did they have to look under the tumbleweeds to find the dumbest, most hick sounding narrator to do that PSA?

Idiots in Texas romanticizing the Wild West. Nothing to see here.

Round Rock is my first hometown. Man it's changed a lot since we left in '85.

my thoughts are most people who open carry do so more for attention than anything else, if you carry for protection you conceal it.
I've seen people open carry at funerals and kid's birthday parties and it makes no sense to me. Sure I do have a gun on me a lot of times, but I don't want the world to know that I do.
