Anyone ever have this issue. It got stuck in the mud while it was running Saturday and now it only spins in reverse? Any thoughts on what might cause this? Minn Kota Riptide 70

Mount it on the transom. Problem solved.

I had a minn kota do the same quite a few years ago.

You can fix it to go in forward only by switching the battery cables. That's about all we ever got out of the shade tree marine guy we took it to.

My thirty year old Minn Kota is supposed to have five speeds in forward and two in reverse.

Only one reverse speed works and only speed 2,3, and 5 work in forward. So maybe it is the switch??

My new Minn Kota arrives Friday.

He is a board sponsor on Bass Boat Central and can be found in the Electrical/Wiring/Trolling Motor Section.

Yep. You need a new controller. Check eBay.

Does it sound like the motor is running, but just doesn't spin the prop? Could be something stripped in the gearing. If the motor isn't doing anything, you likely fried something in the "forward circuit" (control panel, wiring, etc.). I'd rather have the second problem. I have a feeling that would be a much cheaper fix.

I won't go into great detail but FTB kept my Minn Kota for four weeks to replace a $8.00 part that was under warranty. They will never see me in their shop again and I'm not the only person that feels that way.

Would be interesting to know what time of year this was. Boat repair shops typically have long backlogs at certain times of the year, especially spring, but the better shops have back logs all year round. I put my boat in the shop last spring and after calling several well recommended shops, the best estimated turn around time I could find was 4 weeks.

Yeah from what I have read on diff web sites,it's a switch or something with the wiring for the forward gears. I've heard the same about FTB, but have had decent service with them in the past. One time they had my TM for 4 months waiting on a part that was back ordered. I called all over the state and no one had this part, so I wasn't too mad at them. The second time it was about a 4 day turn around. Anyone ever use Ascension Trolling Motors??

I have used Acension Trolling Motors for a couple different wiring issues. Guy does good work and should not be too backed up right now. I would recommend.

Now the guy in the back of the boat has the edge.

My bill dance model 1989 trolling motor lost all its speeds except low. The speed selector switch finally went out. Because I am a poors and needed selectable speeds for trolling jigs I replaced the speed selector with a household dimmer switch. Actually works better and allows more control than the standard 5 speed switch.

lulz...you're a bona fide redneck engineer.

reminds me of a buddy who didn't want to spend the money on a proper trolling motor plug set up, so he ended up using a three prong dryer 220 plug.

fricking rig...
