Your post illustrates what many HATE about the state of LSU football and the Miles apologists. While you're obsessing over whether the correct term to describe our season is mediocre, you know what Alabama fans and their coach would consider the same record...ABJECT FAILURE! The wide gap in expectations is puzzling. The seeming willingness to concede losses and justify it by pointing out our ranking relative to all 128 FBS schools is painful and not very honest gauge of LSU football. For example, the law student at Harvard who finishes ranked 75 out of 150 in his class is by definition AVERAGE. Now the Harvard graduate may have better grades and may be subjectively "smarter" than the kid who graduated 40 out of 150 at LSU's Law Center, but that kid is still AVERAGE when comparing him to his PEERS. Same goes with LSU football. The SEC teams are LSU's peers and LSU is average in comparison.

This is such a dumbass post trying to justify LSU football's--and Les Miles's failures--and yes, I said FAILURES--it's not even funny.
As another poster said, it's about VALUE for the investment--and in that sense, Miles has been a failure the last few seasons any way you look at it.
One dilemma the pumpers find themselves impaled upon the horns of is recruiting.
"Oh, Les is such a great recruiter! Annual top five classes!" Well, then any reasonable person should expect annual top five finishes, shouldn't they? I'll be even MORE reasonable and say, top ten finishes. If we don't get that--and we DON't get that--whose fault is it? Where does the buck stop?
The pumper narrative has changed over the years.
It used to be:
"We are better than Alabama! When they sign a 3 star, he automatically becomes a 5 star! Damn crooked recruiting services!"
Now:
"Alabama is so much better than us! They recruit all these five stars! Les and our gallant little team do well just to be competitive with them!"
To the OP, let me guess: you're one of those who think we're "bama-sessed" and we need to treat Alabama as "just another game," eh?
I predict the playoffs will expand to ten teams within five years. That's a good thing and will be a good measuring stick. Those of us who see that the emperor has no clothes are told we are "negative" and "We are an elite program!"
A ten team playoff will be a good measuring stick and Les can be asked: "How often do you make the playoffs?"
Of course, I hope by the time it is adopted, that Les has ridden off with all his millions.
But posts like the OP's which basically excuse mediocrity reveal which posters have actually held high-paying management or professional jobs with high expectations for excellent production--and which posters hold down the third shift at the Dairy Queen.
The OP's post definitely indicates the latter.

Let me take this analogy a step further.
A C student out of high school attending Nichols State will rejoice over his 3.0 average his first semester of college.
I was in a graduate program where a 2.9 GPA or less--and you were kicked out of the program.
You cannot compare the two students, yet the OP insists that the guy getting kicked out of grad school is an academic powerhouse because he has the same gpa as an undergrad at an admit-all college.
So we should be thrilled that LSU is better than Arkansas State.

LSU football has finished 5-3, 4-4 and 5-3 in the SEC the last 3 seasons, and right square in the middle (or slightly below) in the SEC West standings. That's simply the epitome of MEDIOCRE.

Sure, compared to Wake Forests of the world, we're very good. But that's not where we live.
Our competition is SEC, and particularly SEC west, teams. Those are the ones against which we are judged. And we're mediocre.

There was disappointment this year and room for improvement moving forward, but the terms "mediocre" and "terrible" to not describe our LSU Tigers
English please. Some of you fools need to read your own posts before hitting the submit button. I assume you meant to put the word "do" where the word "to" is.

You're right, these terms do not describe the team/players......they describe the god awful over-paid, under worked coaching staff.

just like to point out we,had then exact same SEC record this year that we did in '01 when we won the SEC. Backed into that due to a much worse conference then. Of course we finished by beatin Tennessee and Illinois in the Sugar, but that team didn't have a better regular season than this. And they are thought of as an all-time great team. Super fun to watch. Mainly because of Rohan to Reed. Buts they still lost 3 games.
This.

Our team was mediocre. Miles sucks. He's Forest Gump and it's real to us.

Actually, a 14-10 record is the 2nd best in the SEC West over that timeframe. Just sayin'.

about 60 power 5 schools. if we're 20-25, yeah, we're above average, but not by much. 20-40 range is mediocre.

LSU is mediocre last few years in conference. Don't even bother trying to dispute that. Look at the record. Look where LSU finishes in the West.
If you're trying to say LSU is not mediocre due to ranking, consider LSU was unranked last year, and is a whopping 23 right now. The fact only 3 other SEC teams are ranked merely shows how down the SEC is this year. It does not indicate that LSU is good.

So there's parity. Doesn't mean LSU is GOOD.

Do you think that mediocre Harvard law student will be living in a cardboard box? I wouldn't think he or she would have any problem finding a quality job and doing well.
