Current Virginia Tech offensive coordinator. He runs a pro style offense and isn't likely to retained on Justin Fuente's staff. He's been a QB coach at Michigan, Florida and in the NFL. He's been an offensive coordinator at Auburn. That was a total disaster but some attribute it to running a pro style offense with players recruited for Malzahn's spread. Also, he played QB at Michigan while Miles was the O-line coach. He was also linked to the LSU OC job in 2011 prior to Kragthorpe being hired.

quote:

n this formation, the Hokies have both tight ends flexed out to the boundary with the fullback, Rogers, replacing their tailbacks and offset Brewer. They can run jet sweeps by sending a receiver like Deon Newsome behind the fullback and tight ends, or they can have a solid, six-man protection scheme while sending four receivers into patterns.

quote:

Here's an empty set with a tight end split wide. Malleck has become deadly running routes over the middle, and Hodges shows great potential as well

quote:

Here is modern college football's favorite formation, a pistol or shotgun alignment with an H-back who can be a lead blocker or run a passing pattern.

This would be a very Miles-esque hire. Fairly underwhelming and not much fanfare.

PROS: Runs a modern pro style set with some spread looks. Lots of shotgun. off set backs, use of a fullback beyond a lead blocker role, heavy use of two TEs, spreading the ball around to multiple receivers.

Tech's top 5 leading receivers in 2015:
WR: 937
WR: 549
TE: 492
TE: 277
FB: 170

CONS: Despite the use of some offensive sets we're desperate to see at LSU, he's never had a particularly good offense.

Total offense:
2015 Virginia Tech 93rd
2014 Virginia Tech 86th
2013 Virginia Tech 91st
2012 Auburn 117th
2011 Temple 56th

Let me get this straight. You think we should consider a Coach for the OC position who, by your own admission, has never had a good offense.

Les is not going to fire his buddy. CC entrenched. Peveto entrenched. Steele entrenched. Learn to love it!!

We will hire Josh Henson, Missouri OC. Another one of Les' good ole boys. Will be another meaningless hire.

So how are these pros if the offense still sucks?

Looks like a "safe" Miles-type hire.
